Discrete internal mute code for Samung LE40M87BDX/Harmony 555
I have a Harmony 555 remote control, and I have everything setup pretty much exactly as I would want it, including the discrete codes to go directly to each input and so on. I was wondering if anyone figured a way to get internal mute to be turned on without having to go through the menus? When I was TV I generally tend to use the TV's speakers, but when watching DVD's or playing on the Xbox 360 I use my amp. Everything is now working perfectly but I still have to go into devices and turn the volume down on the TV manually if I switch from "Watch TV" to "Play Xbox 360" etc.
Anyone manage to do this using a Harmony Remote? Is there even a discrete code for doing it on my TV?
Thanks in advance,
Kaz

In your Watch TV Activity you must MAP the TV MUTE to the MUTE button. On your other Activities you would match the AMP MUTE to the MUTE button. It would normally ask Volume related questions on SetUp.
The MUTE button will be a toggle, so providing you are careful and it does not get out of sync you could Send the MUTE command in the TV ACTIVITY start Up & again on TV ACTIVITY EXIT. This assumes that (without the Harmony) if you Power Off in MUTE mode that it Powers On in MUTE mode & vice-versa.
Your Alternative is to MAP the TV MUTE command to a Spare Button (Hard or Soft) in AMP ACTIVITY and vice-versa.
Also check that MUTE does not remain on screen, just in case of screenburn.

Re: Discrete internal mute code for Samung LE40M87BDX/Harmony 555
Thanks for the help. Thing is, I don't want the normal TV mute, as that does leave a graphic on screen. I want to use the internal mute option that is selectable from the Samsungs menu, as that doesn't. I don't seem to have a discrete code for it on the remote though. Just wondering if there is a way of doing it?
Thanks again,
Kaz

How do you access it from the Samsung RC?

You need a Harmony "sequence" for this.
It would be something like "menu", "direction right" to get to audio, "direction down" to get to the internal mute option, "select" - hopefully not more than the five commands you're allowed in a sequence.

You don't, other than going through the menus to turn it on. Otherwise I could easily set it that way, if there was an actual button to turn it on/off. That's why I say a "discrete" code. For instance, the Samsung remote only has one button to cycle through inputs, but I can set up seperate buttons for each individual input on my Harmony. Also as another example, I can't access DNIe with one button press on the Samsung remote, I have to go into the menus to turn it on/off, but the Harmony has a command to do it in one button press (not that I really need it anyway ). What I'm wondering is if there is a hidden code to do this for internal mute as well. Someone told me you can get the command if you tell the Harmony software you have a different Samsung model, but they didn't say which one.
hhatkin: yea I was thinking of doing that, but to be honest it's probably just as easy to quickly switch to go to devices on the remote, switch to tv and just press volume down when I watch a DVD or play the 360.
Thanks,
Kaz

You DO! The question I asked is what hhatkin answered. You may NOT do it discretely but you CAN DO it via a sequence, that's what I was asking!

So if the Harmony HAS a button, I dont get the query! and if you dont need it, is this just an academic exercise?

Re: Discrete internal mute code for Samung LE40M87BDX/Harmony 555
Sorry for any misunderstanding, but you're not reading what I said properly. If you re-read what I said I was making an example of something the Harmony does, that the standard remote can't (turning DNie on/off with one button press rather than going into the menus). I was trying to find out if it's possible to set the same sort of thing to turn internal mute on/off, which I did hear someone claim you can do but I wasn't sure how. I wasn't saying I already knew how to do it because then I wouldn't need to open this thread!
If I can't do it discretely then I can make do with either a sequence as you and hhatkin mentioned, or by just lowering the volume myself manually. It would be easier with a discrete code, but if that's not possible then I'll stick with the way I am doing it now.
Like I say, sorry for any misunderstanding.

No problems, likewise. I think my confusion started with when you said the Harmony could do it, you mean the standard MUTE
and NOT the Internal. Unless you can track the source down the only other way is to ask the manufacturer for the codes and Harmony would put it on the Database.
The activities way is a good idea, providing the OEM RC works in a consistent fashion then it would probably work well.
Cheers, Alan

Various discretes ARE available but I've never come across any for the mute, or speakers-off, functions.
The sequence method works perfectly, but if you don't do that you still don't need to switch to devices and back to activities,
as you can allocate TV volume up/down buttons to hard or virtual buttons within the activities that use alternative audio.
