Which Pronto remote?
I have had a RU940, and a Marantz RC9200, but am now looking at the newer models.
I have found the previous models simple to program with ProntoEdit and must admit i'm not sure i would use all the features of the TSU9600/9400 esp the RS232 thingy.
My understanding is that the 9400/9600 both come without an RF extender, but the RU990 does. Not even sure i'd use that but hey if its in the box, great. What i really need to know is do the 9400/9600 offer significantly more/better features than the RU990. I Don't really want to spend way more time programming it than i have with my previous models. As i said, i found them relatively simple, but am a little daunted with the prospect of 'scripts' which i don't really understand atm. Are the screens much different on different models?
Also, ideally i'd like to be able to operate it one handded which looks impossible with the 9600. Or is that not the case?
So basically RU990, TSU9400, or TSU9600?
Any advice would be very welcome to help me decide.

9400 I suspect is the right anser. You don't need to use scripts and, without them, it will do everything the 990 can anyway. It's one handed (not sure but the 990 does not look one handed0.
Only issue, is really is availabity and cost. So, if you want to save approx £100 and get a remote quickly then it's the 990
Mark
Although, woud the Harmony one of 1000 not be better and cheaper option

Re: Which Pronto remote?
990 does not come with an RF extender - unless you buy second hand from somebody selling the two together.
Some stuff on 9600 can be done one handed, but some need two hands - it's not an issue I've noticed when using it though.
You can program 9400 and 9600 exactly the same way as you did the 940 - the scripts will let you do very much more if you wish, but you don't have to. And at the moment, all my script is letting me do is reset the pronto unexpectedly........
By the way - you can't get RF extenders for 9400 / 9600 so if you have kit that uses them, don't buy a 9400 / 9600.

Re: Which Pronto remote?
I agree with both the above suggestions, (I have the RU990) so do not know much about the other 2 models but cost would be my deciding issue.
Don't, whatever you do, go for the Harrmony 1000 because if you are used to the flexibilty of the Pronto range and know roughly how to program Prontos the harmony will really frustrate you because you have to do what the remote wants rather than make the remote do what you want.
I always suggest downloading the Pronto Edit programs for the remote you are considering because you can then try it out, see if you understand it and all of them let you import you current CCF so you can see how it will look on the new remote and than replace the graphics to your buttons etc to see how great the colour screens can be.
You will find the functionality of the RU990 (and the other two) slightly different in that the screens work differently and you have to navigate through them in a different way to the RU940.( I have one of those too) But if you know how to program the RU940 the newer models should be no more difficult you just need to think slightly differently. The extra buttons are really great too!
You can get "extenders" for both the TSU9400 and TSU9600 but they are different for each model and different from the one the RU990 would use.
Something else to consider is I use my RU990 with X10 for control of sockets and blinds and control and dimming of lights. This is a direct RF link with the RU990 so the X10 transceiver can be be in any room - it is possible with the other 2 models but you need the X10 transceiver has to be in line of sight for IR operation.
Hope that helps some
Stoobie
PS, did your RC9200 come with the RF extender? If so that will work with the RU990 but not the other two!

If you mean the RFX9400 & RFX9600, then the names are a little misleading - these do not match the TSU9400 / TSU9600. Either extender can be used with either remote - but the extenders provide different functions - the RFX9600 does much more.

Re: Which Pronto remote?
If I remember rightly then the 990 is pretty much a Philips version of your 9200 (the 9200 is colour right)
Main difference are software but also the extra 2 hard buttons (4 at the bottom of the screen)
If I'm wrong and the 9200 is B&W then obviously main differences are its colour. plus the difference in case design giving 2 extra buttons
So a proper upgrade would be the new series of remotes. i.e 9400 or 9600
The best place for finding out more would be the reviews at remote central
Edit. I might be wrong, I think the 9500 was the colour marantz 990 equivelant

you would need either the RFX9400 or RFX9600. If you can, go for the 9600 it is a lot lot better.
