Harmony 885 - Arggghhhh!

Sorry sorry sorry sorry ... I just did a search on 885 questions and this has been answered. You have to download and install the updated software because the stuff on the disc is buggy. Apologies for barging in with a new thread.

I just recieved my new Harmony 885 through the post. This is my first universal remote so I'm a newb here.

When trying to set-up my remote it gets to the last checkpoint where it updates my remote, then it tells me my firmware needs updated and to go to support in the member page.

I do this and run the firmware updater and this then tells me that the latest firmware version for my remote is 4.0 and this is already installed on my remote. I run the firmware update anyway and the message pops up on my screen that firmware has been installed successfully.

I download another million files to get to the update page I was on earlier and it tells me "my firmware needs updated and to go to support in the member page."

I do this over and over and over again.

Now I'm getting a little pee'd off with it. Any advice for a struggling noob?

EDIT: I should also note that this would be a hell of a lot less painful if IE7 didn't insist on blocking every download.

I got mine from Amazon for £108 delivered. After that initial hiccup the remote has worked first time for all my kit, even the obscure Drundig HDMI set top box I have.

The activities are a joy, just hit one button and it'll sort everything out ready to play Xbox, PS3 (no bluetooth but the joypad turns the PS3 on anyway) or watch TV. It seems very flexible with the customisations so I think with a bit of further playing about I can get the very most out of this remote.

Going from 5 remotes to 1 was worth the money and I defintely have no buyers remorse on this one. Recommended.

Now to get an IR dongle for my PS3.

Gutted, there was an 885 on ebay a few weeks ago that the seller was getting rid of as faulty because it was doing exactly the same thing as you describe.
Buy it now price was £20 plus delivery.

I was gutted missing one at £50, they are now going for £75+, mind you I wonder how good the charging connectors are on s/h models?

I looked on ebay for ages for a cheap Harmony but eventually gave up as most were either going for higher than retail price or about £10-20 less. I wonder how many people get caught with this firmware thing when really it's nothing to do with the firmware.

I finally decided that having no warranty or return was not worth saving £20 for.

I'm not sure what is meant by S/H models but the charging dock is great on mine and even looks cool too if that's any use.

Re: Harmony 885 - Arggghhhh!

Does Logitech have a database you can whack your product into to see if the remote can control it?

I want this remote to work with my Philips HTS3357.

Thanks

Yes they do, on their website you can download the remote software and check the database for yourself. Click here, it's under 'How To', HTH.

You can download it but you must register and connect a device before you can access it.

The HTS3357 is in the Database
