Logitech Ability ?

Forgive my ignorance but im new to the latest universal learning remotes

Im thinking of buying a secondhand av amp that doesnt come with a remote (due to being damaged) and was wandering if a replacement Logitech could be programmed without the original.

Basically , am i right in thinking that you just link it to a PC and download the correct program codes for the amp in question ?

How comprehensive are these downloadable lists ?

Is it that simple and what if the amp isnt listed - am I then a bit stuck ?

Thanks

Re: Logitech Ability ?

Yes it can be that simple.

Let us know the make & model and we can see if it's on the Database. If not a similar model's codes may work.

Otherwise there will (probably) be ways but could get a bit complicated.

cheers

Alan

Re: Logitech Ability ?

Thanks Alan

The model is a Pioneer VSA AX10AI av amplifier.

It would be great if you could tell me if its listed as the replacement original remote is £300

Re: Logitech Ability ?

I haven't come across anything that isn't listed on the database yet myself. You can download the software and try it before you buy a remote, so in effect you can have it setup before you get the remote!

Unfortunately, I do not think it is available anymore. You have to connect a Remote & Register.

Will check the model when I can.

Re: Logitech Ability ?

Andy Hi

Yes it shows as an AV Receiver. I have downloaded it as a device but of course I cant test it. Let me know if you want me to check for specific commands, but it seems pretty comprehensive.

Dave

I was unable to use that before I purchased mine about a month ago. I'll try again registering as a new member to see if it will let me.

Re: Logitech Ability ?

Thanks Alan

Thanks for going the extra mile

Hopefully the majority of commands will function ok and once its fully set up its only the general functions that i will need.

What is the cheapest Logitech remote you would recommend that does what i need ?

Thanks

Andy

Re: Logitech Ability ?

No problem Andy, happy to help, can you remember a time without these forums? I spend long enough now messing with technology, to think how long that could be!

I just got the 555, I paid sub £50 on the web. Whilst I think the Harmony's are great, they do struggle to get the key size/layout IMHO. Many say that is cured with the ONE but it does not have the 4 colour buttons.

Whilst I love messing with them my main aim is to guide the wife through the technological jungle she says she lives in! So the ACTIVITIES concept works great (though you do have to get your head around & accept the concept).

The 555 has 4 Visible (at a time) activities and my plan was to get another but now am thinking of getting a s/h 885 off ebay as it has 8 visible (& colour) activities and a slightly better key arrangement. However I think the 555 is better looking, so I guess you have to jump in somewhere!

The good thing whatever one you get is the Software is the same as are the functions. You can compare them on the Logitech site but they do show images of the US models!

Let me know if I can help more, either now or when you've taken the plunge!

Cheers

Alan

Re: Logitech Ability ?

Thanks Alan

Yes these forums are invaluble at times

The last universal remote i had was a cambridge M1 and i suspect things have moved on a bit since then. Ill have a look at the link you provided and decide where to 'jump in'.

Thanks again

Andy
