Harmony 885 first use

Just got my 885 and seem to be stuck at the first (or maybe second!) hurdle. I seem to be in a never-ending loop.

I have charged the remote, installed the software, and set up my devices and activities on the website. But when I tried to send (the initial) update to the remote a pop-up appeared that said I must upgrade my firmware. I went to the firmware upgrade page and started the process - it said I already have the latest firmware, so I tried the update again - same result!

So I went back to the firmware upgrade and went ahead with it, even though it said I already had it. This seems to work OK, the remote reporting successful upgrade.

Back to the update - same popup "you must upgrade your firmware".

Not a happy start!

If you update the actual Harmony software on your computer, you'll find this problem will disappear. HTH.

Dead right, Max, exactly as the guy at Logitech was telling me as you were posting your message! Apparently the software version on the disc is incompatible with the firmware version on the remote, both out of the same box!

This is just a misinterpretation of the events that you are seeing. And the misinterpretation is Logitechs fault, because the software is badly written. The actual update is found on a seperate page to the normal opening sequence. I too went through this a few times before I clocked on that when it says it is updating my sytem it is in fact just opening the setup screen.

Re: Harmony 885 first use

Glad you sorted it Fredsie, it happened to me in a different way. I made a few adjustments to my Activities and went to update them onto my remote. I kept getting the same message as you and only found the reason why by getting on to the Logitech customer service line to vent my frustration.

In my case, I at least knew that my 885 was a good piece of kit as I'd had no problems with it previously. For you it must have been quite disconcerting to say the least!

There's no misinterpretation ... it's just as Fredsie says, the current firmware isn't compatible with the old PC software. Update the PC software and the problem is no more.
