Harmony RF WIRELESS EXTENDER - How does it work?

I don't get it...

Does it emit RF signals for RF controlled devices - If so how can it be called an extender?

Does the RF relate to the communication link between the Harmony 1000 RC and the extender unit, which them emits IR codes again?

Sorry but I am confused about this...can anyone help?

AK

Re: Harmony RF WIRELESS EXTENDER - How does it work?

The second option.

The remote sends a command via RF to the extender, which converts the command back to IR and sends it to the components.

You can't directly control an RF device (no universal remote can) apart from those that use the "Z-Wave" protocol.

Thanks!

So, to further clarify it, although the Harmony 1000 can not control RF-controlled devices, it DOES have RF capability, at least to transmit the commands to the extender?

Is this correct?

Re: Harmony RF WIRELESS EXTENDER - How does it work?

exactly what he said.
Although going off topic it is actually possible to learn some RF commands.

I have successfully used the RF receiver bit of a powermid to receive the RF from the remote for a switched RF socket, convert to IR to be learned by my pronto and change this command on the pronto to transmit this command as RF. Worked a treat.
