New Remote Needed. Not Logitech!!!

Hi guys, I am looking for a new remote to replace the 5 or 6 I'm using now. I got a logitech 525 a couple of months back, but could it balls work with my TV (LG 42PC56). The main problem was that it would never switch to the right component. There were some other issues with the DVD but i was'nt to fussed about that.

So after many a time re-doing the settings and calling logitech, I decided that i was going to give up and stick with the 5 remotes.

That again has got really annoying.

Is there any other decent remotes that will do the job and not cost the earth???

Any advice is appreciated

Try any of the All four one remotes (cheap) or URC remotes (my favourites -e.g. Mx-500,MX-700).

Re: New Remote Needed. Not Logitech!!!

If your TV does not support discrete codes for on/off, source input etc then any remote will struggle to operate activities with any degree of success. It is not a problem with the remote but with the TV (or other sources) that do not support discrete codes. You can play around with creating sequences of commands to emulate discrete code operation - your TV may switch in from stanby by pressing a channel number rather than power toggle for example in which case use a number for "on" and a number followed by power toggle for "off" but this can lead still give problems occasionally. With that in mind you may be better to create very simple Activities and then make sure you have buttons for power & source toggle easily accessible so you can make the necessary adjustments without lots of fiddling. You could do this with your Harmony if you still have it by also making sure the relevent TV commands are included on the Activities screen.

Re: New Remote Needed. Not Logitech!!!

I've got one. The activities are a little restrictive (you can't change labels)
You scroll using the silver scrolly bit through devices then activities on the smaller screen above the main touch screen which can be a bit of a pain.
The touch screen itself can't be changed, you can learn on any button but not change the labels on them.

The remote itself looks well nice, very good quality although the silver scroll wheel isn't quite up to the standard of the rest.

I quite liked it but its nothing more than a fancy version of your boggo standard One4all remote. Still gets use in the bedroom. If you didn't get the Harmony to work right then you stand no chance with this particular philips.

Did you have a look in the forums on www.remotecentral.com for discreet codes for your TV. You can program these into your Harmony or other PC programmed remote if they are available

Re: New Remote Needed. Not Logitech!!!

LG's TV's in general tend to have good support for discreet codes, I had a quick look on the discreet code hunter on RC and theres quite a lot there about discreet codes (nothing for your specific model but they often share remote codes between models)
If you still have the harmony give them a try

If you want the ultimate in customisation I would go for a 2nd hand (or new old stock) pronto. My pronto RU950 was really cheap on Ebay and is IMHO miles better (once setup properly) than anything Harmony do. If you can afford it the colour screen (RU980/990 or TSU7000/7500 USA models) are absolutely awesome but probably overkill for a lot of people.

Programming is either a pig or a pleasure depending on your point of view, its certainly challenging at first but I personally found the process very enjoyable.

Can have macros to send 20 commands, so you can turn 20 devices on at the same time!
