Availability of Philips Pronto TSU9400
Can anyone recommend somewhere from which I could purchase a Philips Pronto TSU9400. I've narrowed my choice of remote controls down to the Philips Pronto TSU9400 and the URC MX-810. There is no sign of the latter (my favourite choice) becoming available in the UK so I will probably have to go with the Philips. Just trying to find a reputable online dealer from which I could purchase one?
Would also appreciate comments from TSU9400 owners on the units build quality (is the casing plastic or metal ?). How sensitive is the touch screen ? Any problems ?

Thanks in advance for any comments offered.

The TSU9600 is not available for direct sale to end users and the same regulations may apply to the new 9400 have you tried your local dealer? Or have they all black listed you? The advantage of going to your local dealer is that you would be able to answer al of the questions yourself by holding one and touching it pressing some buttons

Re: Availability of Philips Pronto TSU9400
The best price I could find (and for that matter) the only current UK supplier I could find was £569 at the Phone place mentioned above. I was unable to locate a UK selle for either the RFX9400 or RFX9600 Extender.
Hence
I imported my TSU9400 and a RFX Extender from the States.
The TSU9400 cost $600 (£300)
The RFX9600 cost $440 (£220)
Postage was $52 (£26)
Fully appreciate that most people do not like importing dus to the risk etc.
Mark
Addendum to this post - They did not have them in stock

Hi there Mark, can you let me know from where you imported this and what you think about the Pronto, is it better than the Harmoney 1000? Did you get stung for customs?

Re: Availability of Philips Pronto TSU9400
If you are thinking of buying from the States, I'd recommend posting an inquiry off to Dave D'Arche at remotequest.com.
I've never purchased anything from the states myself (but I'm thinking it might not be a bad option with the price of the TSU9400 over here), but Dave is an active forum member on remotecentral.com and I'm pretty sure he's stated before that he'll ship to the UK (AND honour warrenties).
You can't really compare the Harmony 1000 and the Pronto 9400/9600, they are totally different products aimed at completely different users. The Pronto is customer install or end users (I hate the term prosumer) who are willing/able to set up the Prontos themselves.
I you are worried about programming the Prontos, the editors are freely available for download from pronto.philips.com or remotecentral.com, so you can discovered what is involved in programing them for yourself.
Remember that a Pronto is only as good as the programming, do it well and you'll wonder how you ever managed before you owned one

I imported the remote via an advert on E-Bay. Using the same seller I bought the RF Extender direct. I.E. reduced price as he then had no E-bay fees etc, etc.
If you like I will ask him if I can PM you his E-mail address and you then ask him for a quote for the remote.
Re the RFX9600 extender (if you wanted one) I'm sure I saw one of these the other day on lets automate for £247 plus delviert. I paid £220 including delivery so, not a massive saving.
However, you may want the RFX9400 which the guy can also supply.
Let me know if you would like me to ask him if he is happy for me to PM you his address.
For what it's worth (we kinda hit if off a bit via our e-mails - quite sad I know) he has told me that he can source many many different type of audio equipment / assessory.

To put it simply I don't have the time.
Funny timing with your e-mail, as I was just thinking that seeing as though the only offers I have a well below what I would sell for as may as well print off the Pronto Pro Edit software manual to see if I could make any sense of it and, maybe giving it a go

Re: Availability of Philips Pronto TSU9400
That's the spirit!
I know what you mean though. A while ago, I was heavily involved in the remote control scene, mostly in writing software utilities for Pronto code conversion amongst other remotes (MX500, MX600) and even CCF/XCF/PCF editors not to mention doing the actual user interface configurations for the remotes themselves but I just couldn't spare the time between my real job, home life and my "hobby".
However, the addition of ProntoScript to the two top-end Pronto remotes has rekindled my interest and I'm toying with the idea of getting a 9400 to do some more development work possibly with the intention of branching into remote controls in a more commercial sense....and that's how I ended up here in this thread (and on eBay ).
It's a lot of money to lay out just for development purposes but sadly the Pronto (Pro) emulators don't currently support ProntoScript so you need a real remote to test it on.
edit: I'm looking at importing a 9400 from the USA - can you give some more information on how you went about it and the costs involves. You don't need to mention any seller details specifically, I'm more interested in shipping and tax stuff.

Here's what I paid.
Pronto TSU9400 $600 (£300) - Normal about $660 (I negotiated)
RFX9400 Extender $440 (£220) - Unsure here as what normal prices are
Postage In the region of $60 - I foget myself
Customs, VAT & Handling charges = £175
I would suggest that customs etc, etc would be in the region of £100 for the TSU9400.
Good luck and you have obviously seen my E-bay add - feel free to make a best offer.

Re: Availability of Philips Pronto TSU9400
For anyone wanting a new Pronto 9400 or 9600, I'd suggest they contact AWE Europe for details of the nearest dealer, AWE are the sole UK distributors....
