Question Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

I have recently purchased the Harmony 785.

Charged it up and programmed my tv etc.. using the latest software from Logitech.

For some reason, after setting the time and date on the remote, the clock on the display does not change. It stays at the time i set it at.

Also i have been into the remote settings and set the backlight to go off after X amount of seconds. It doesnt, it stops on. I have also turned off the tilt thing and it hasnt made any difference.

What am i doing wrong ?? I have tried so many things perhaps i have confused it. Is there any way to reset the control back to its factory settings ?

Thanks

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

I sent Logitech support an email about my two problems.
They replied and told me to download the latest firmware.
I ALREADY DID THAT before i contacted them, I also told them that when i emailed them.

I have sent another email to support yesturday and awaiting a reply.

Later today i shall be ringing them.

I think i have also realised why the backlight will not go out. My other problem is that the clock will not change, If the time doesn`t change the glow light will not know when 5 etc.. secs have past to turn itself off.

Hi!

i think my 785 remote has exactly the same problem - i assume its a firmware thing and should be easy fixed - did you have any luck?

thanks,

Adam

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

After no success with harmony email support ( never had any reply from my 2nd email), i rang support. I had to quote my incident number which i was given in their 1st email response then they knew straight away what i was calling about.

They talked me through updating the firmware - again then still not solving the problem told me to ring back later in the afternoon and they would put me through to `level 2` support - in Canada i was told.

Rang again later and asked for level 2 support, spoke to a very nice chap who again talked me through updating the firmware.
He then decided that the remote may be FAULTY.

He said he would contact the warrenty department for a replacement but was told it could take days to hear from them.

I decided to return the remote to where i purchased it from & got a replacement.

I have not tried the new one yet. I am about to unpack it.

I would suggest if you have the same problems, return it straight away if possible as faulty.

I will let you know if the new 785 works ok.

Thumbs up Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

SUCCESS !!

The new remote now works correctly.
The clock works and the backlight goes out when it should.

Anyone with the same problems should return their harmony straight away for a replacement.

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

Glad you have had success, I got sent a replacement with exactly the same problem. Just got off the phone to Canada, they are now sending me a third.

Did you have to return your old battery/battery cover to Switzerland?

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

I think we should form a club - this seems to be a very common issue. I decided to send mine back to Logitech as they seemed marginally more helpful than dabs (they never called me back tho. ever. i had to phone them five times).

The new one arrived last week, and is excellent - works great and we are happy. shame it seems that 50% seem to arrive defective. I would encourage anyone else to consider the model below if they are considering as it seems to have less faults.

And yes, battery and cover are headed off to somewhere in scandanavia

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

The third remote they have sent me has the same problem.

I think the problem is with the web software. Did the people who got a new remote that fixed the problem start a new setup from scratch?

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

yes it worked right out of the box - i think that if it doesn't work straight away, it doesn't work. I just loaded on the old details of my setup and it worked fine.

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

I had the same problem. Cured it by banging the remote on my hand...seems that the tilt sensor is stuck.
However, couldn't waste the opportunity to get a probable faulty remote replaced and my new one has arrived from Logitech.
Trouble is, I can't update it as the site seems to be down...

Re: Harmony 785 - Clock & Backlight ?

I have just purchased one of these remotes and have EXACTLY the same problem.
This reflects on Logitech really badly if they cannot sort out this problem in all this time.

Sorry to say that my success did not last that long .
This was back in November 2007. In March (this year-2008) the remote went again, clock stopped & backlight always on.
Contacted where i purchased it from and got a full refund without any problems.

I would say to anyone thinking about buying the `785` - DON`T .
Anyone who has this remote and having problems, try to get a refund or see if you can change it for a different model. Even if it is working fine at the moment, how long will that last ????????

I have since took a gamble and purchased the Logitech Harmony One remote. This is a much better remote and is a completely different model than the 785. I was looking at the philips controls too but decided the harmony one was the best.

So far I have had NO problems at all with this control and i also got it cheaper than i paid for the 785.
