They do have a wide selection of products, but very expensive compared to what we can get from Global Cache. I've been planning on getting a Global Cache GC-100-12 which retails at £299, the closest Aurora Product is the WACI NX+ which is £1499.

Hello TheBlueFalcon

The Aurora range is quite extensive - the entry level multi port server unit being the WACI POD at 400.00 GBP - Aurora Multimedia - IP Control Systems, Multi-Image Video Processors, DVI and HDMI Distribution...

The WACI NX+ is just over 1.2K GBP so yes not an entry level product - Aurora Multimedia - IP Control Systems, Multi-Image Video Processors, DVI and HDMI Distribution...

Hello everyone,

Ive just Brough a Mac Mini and im running all my music from it to a Sony DA2400ES, i have a itouch that controls the mac though the network with iremote, i only (at the moment) use it for itunes so its like a duet squeeze box but better...Now this is all well and good but its not perfect. I still have to use two things to get the music going. itouch and amp remote (two remotes shock horror) but its still one too many. I have been looking at the Thinkflood RedEye

My questions is if i buy a RedEye will i have to keep swapping networks on the itouch to control the mac mini and the RedEye becuase thats the way it looks which is no biggie but something to consider.

Please can someone enlighten me

Cheers Charlie

After reading this thread, I'm seriously considering an iPod Touch (the wife already has one) solution for Zone 2 (kitchen) listening from my Onkyo SR876. Sources will only comprise of radio and music from an Apple TV, so shouldn't be hard to configure.

I'd be looking at a Wifi solution with an emitter probably stowed away under the sofa. That way controlling the SR876 will be a breeze.

Anyone got this kind of setup already?

I've not used Apple TV, so don't know anything about it. If it has an App for the Touch to control it that also includes a volume control, then you could set your Onkyo to a fixed output for Zone 2 and only have to control the Apple TV box. It means you would have to go to your main room and switch Zone 2 on or off, but it will save money as you would not need anything else to be able to do it.

Otherwise you'll need to get an iTach unit to be able to control the Apple TV box and Receiver, then an App like iViewer.

Interesting thread so far.

I'm not going for the iPad remote idea for now; I already have a tablet pc (Motion Computing) so no need for another. However, I'm all for an iTouch remote to replace my partially dog chewed Harmony 1000 .

I would want it to function like a Harmony but to take the concept further. It must be activity based like the Harmony and must also be able to be placed easily into a docking/charging station - leads are a pain. Also, it should be able to get remote codes from a database, none of that PITA pointing and learning codes except for the most obscure.

Taking the concept further the buttons available for each activity must configurable and customisable like many hark for. Some way to integrate it for bluetooth to control the PS3 would be great too.

Lastly, sending the signals via wifi as well as IR at the same time (or switchable) would be great. All my kit will be under the stairs away from view except the plasma (don't know if the Kuro 500A can take signals via ethernet and probably too complicated!). All this probably isn't really necessary as I'll most likely end up with an IR reciever to take the signals to the location of the kit.

A lot to ask, but I'm watching the rise of the iTouch remotes keenly!

Yes, and the Remote app does have a volume control, but if the Apple TV is also being played in the lounge, the volume adjustments will be global. I'd need to control the receiver as well.

I'll have a closer look at this iTach thing. Thanks

i have now got my ipad working as a remote using the Irule software and app and global chache itach wifi to ir unit
its still early stages and is only controlling my tv and sky box but so far i am happy and cost wise about £170 for everything

i have also found the irule software easier to use them most others and support from both company's has been great

Ive been using the itouch (2nd gen) with great success. I run all my music from a mac mini via Remote app which i have to say i had a Logitech squeezebox before which was nice having internet radio, but running the itouch with itunes is so much better i guess its because its apple to apple! and can then control everything else via the Redeye (a wifi to IR converter)
I also have one for sale see here http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-...l#post12616159.

fine now it was a pain at first my router did not like running 811b g and n at the same time but took my time and now works well
i had a look at most of the remote software including the the command fusion but most i found hard to set up the remote pages on
what i liked about the irule software is i could program both a iphone/ipod touch and a ipad and just pay for one licence i want to control dvd, blu ray.and sky from else ware in the house and leave the ipad in the lounge. most of the others wanted me to buy 2 licences. also its very easy to set up pages and if you are used to the pronto software you can import hex codes etc into the set up

could someone please point me in the right direction for the following as i now have about 5/6 different remotes!

Ideally i would like an Iphone app that can work similar to the Harmony all in one remote control. My current set up is the following:-

Philips LCD TV
Onkyo 608 Amp
Sony BDP S570 Blu-ray player
Apple TV (All my music is stored on this)
PS3

Ideally something which i can program to use with everything as i have already downloaded the remote apps for the Apple TV & Sony Blu-ray player but would be easier to use 1 app to do everything.

I have read about Redeye etc on here but this is totally new to me so if someone could maybe help me with information & advice that would be great!

Why not look at something like a Harmony One or 1100 with the PS3 adapter instead?

Hi, Just got the Redeye blaster rather than the mini, Had a bit of trouble initially setting it up, it didn't like the channel I had my router set to, but once set up its a really good piece of kit and Wife friendly. Now got it set up to turn on the TV, Sky Hd & Denon receiver, select correct input and surround setting etc all on 1 button.

It won't control the PS3 though but Thinkflood are working on it in a future update I read somewhere, works with Xbox and all my other kit once I'd got the initial router problem sorted.

Thinkflood support were excellent with quick response to my questions and suggested the channel change on the router.

We are currently taking preorders for the RedEye mini and as Quantum says early Oct for £49.95. Unlike the dock the Mini comes with a keychain so you can carry the dongle around with you on your keys if you wish.

Hi Quantum, I've been waiting for the MiniRedeye to appear for a while, pleased to see it has made its way across the pond. I almost plumped for its predecessor, but when I heard about the Mini I reckoned it suited my use case better.

I have a couple of questions if I may.
Is there a Sky template?
Is there a limit to the amount of activities and devices?
Is there a discount on these for AVforums members?

Thanks in advance, I think I'll want a few of these but will probably buy one very soon to see how I get on.

I've just come across another iPod solution from RYZMedia which might be worth checking out:
RyzMedia - My TV Remote

Not to sure about the IR add-on though as it reminds me of Number 5 from Short Circuit!

What a great thread! Very timely! thanks!

My thinking, as of many others here I beleive, is:

- both ipad and ipod/iphone have excelelnt potential to work as advanced remotes

- built-in infrared sensor/emitter just begs to be introduced on ipad 2, itouch 4 (touch 3 missed it...), iphone 5 (phone 4 missed it...)

- failing the above, a good wifi/IR adapter is needed, ideally universal, i.e. non-propriatory

- a good app needs to provide: integrated control of itunes without leaving the control app, two-way communication with itunes (artwork etc), full screen customisation, computer based and local editing, and an equivalent of pronto edit level of control customisation, large codes database.

so, which apps are the closest to that currently?

A disadvantage I forsee (and I think it is a significant one) is lack of hard buttons on iphone/ipad. Slick touchscreen without buttons certailnly looks cool, but can lack that extra convenience in practice. On a dedicated advanced remote you can navigate a typical meny using hard buttons without looking at the remote. position of hard buttons, their tactile feel and feedback from pressess allows you not to look at them and keep looking at the TV screen. you cannot do that on the touchscreen of ipad/iphone...

So, the houselhold hardware sets to choose are:

dedicated universal remote based: main av system, dedicated remote, netbook or notebook, optinal ipod, optional desktop
ipad based: main av system, ipad, desktop computer or notebook

I bought a Redeye Mini a couple of days ago but haven't been able to find the app. Can someone take a look in the apple app store and see if they can see it ?

Thanks

As of the 19th Thinkflood removed the Redeye App from iTunes app store from the UK along with US, Canada and Australia as they are apparently making some changes and a new version will be available soon.

Thanks, but it's a bit odd that they removed the current app first as anyone buying one now won't be able to use it until the new app becomes available !

The App will be back soon, they are just updating to the latest version, version 1.4.0 of the firmware. Thinkflood submitted the latest software revision to Apple on 12th October and they will have this back on the store as soon as it has been accepted by apple.
