The original remote that comes with the Lava bracket emits an unknown IR protocol, thus far I have not been able to identify it, maybe this is why the Harmony can't learn it.
The bracket itself however is able to learn codes from any other remote, the learning procedure involves flicking the switch on the module on the bracket and is explained in the manual.

Try to get the bracket to respond to another remote perhaps to your DVD remote. Read the lava manual as it explains how to get the bracket to respond to ANY IR code. If you can get this to work then simply use any command in the Harmony and teach these to the bracket.

You might find it easier to set up a device you don't have and use its commands for the actual device to recognise.

Harmony 1000

I setup my 1000 by learning the signals from the lava remote. In and out works fine, no problems.
Try varying the distance from the harmony to the lava remote when learning the signal, this can have an affect.
Similarly have you tried moving closer to the Lava IR signal receiver to see if this is possibly a distance related issue?
The Lava control box should flash when it is receiving a signal.

I have it working fine the lava uses a standard IR codeset but best idea is create the device properly and learn all the commands you need (power on /off and adjust in and out) and delete the randomn ones then set the cams on the bracket

Use the Custom mode for "learning" and learn each time to a renamed MyNewCommand.
