Harmony 1000 and Mode Lighting fade between scenes problem

Hi All

Just after some advice here, I have a Harmony 1000 and have the Mode Lighting SceneStyle2 lighting installed at my place when I use the control pad on the walls for the lighting the scenes slowly fade between eachother making it a nice smooth fade between scenes.

However I set up my harmony last night to controll the lighting but the scenes change almost instantly, no smooth fade anymore. Anyone got any ideas on how to get my nice smooth fades back again? The buttons and commands are in the harmony DB so I didnt have to learn any IR commands.

Try customising the commands to buttons that have the "hold" function on them - direction, volume, channel.

You mean the hard buttons?

Its just meant to be press button 4 and it slowly fades by itself to that scene, at least thats how it does it if I use the original remote, no holding down buttons or anything. Maybe I should try learn the commands from the remote, dont see how that could help though since it is in the database

Yes, the buttons that you normally hold down - you could give that a try.
If you go for "learning" do it in Custom Mode, and do it to MyNewCommand after renaming it.

Re: Harmony 1000 and Mode Lighting fade between scenes problem

Its been a while but I eventually got around to working on the remote again last night.

I did the learning and assigned it to "MyNewCommand" so created a new set of commands and its still doing it, no smooth fades like if I use the lights actual remote, just harsh instant scene changes. Any more ideas

What about Customising the new commands to buttons with the "hold" function?

Re: Harmony 1000 and Mode Lighting fade between scenes problem

I can give it a go but not sure how that is going to help. For instance if I choose the activity moooobies (movies lol) it sets the amp to the right stuff turns on my bdp and SMS-1 then sets the lights to scene4. But when it does the lights it's an instant change not like when I push button 4 on the light controller itself.

Just out of interest how could assigning it to a hard button fix the issue? Does it use different programming?

A hard button with the "hold" function. When you press the volume up/down, channel up/down, direction, buttons they send a continuous signal for as long as you keep them pressed - isn't that what you're looking for with those dimming commands?

Re: Harmony 1000 and Mode Lighting fade between scenes problem

No since it's not a hold down to change scenes it's a tap the button once and it fades into the next scene slowly. Like with Rako or Futronix lighting you tap the scene change button and it then slowly fades to the next scene you don't have to hold the buttons down at all. It might be worth me giving them a ring and seeing what they suggest.

Thanks for the help so far

That's OK and I get the point.
You didn't mention whether you'd tried the "learning" in Custom Mode - that ought to make a difference.

Learning in custom mode? How would I do that? I don't think I've seen an option in the remote software program for that before.

with lighting controls it is quite common for the IR commands to do something different to the hard buttons - you could have IR scene 1 recall a different scene setting and fade time compared to the hard button 1 for example. While I've not programmed a Scenestyle 2 I would guess that it has a different fade time for the IR scenes and you may be able to set these independently from the button fade times. If it is not obvious from the documentation then do contact tech support at Mode to check.

Yes each scene is programmed on the dimmer itself to take 4 secs to change scenes. So if I walk up to the dimmer on the wall and hit button 4 it will take 4 seconds to change from whatever scene it is on to scene4. On the Harmony, if I press button 4 it is an instant change with no fade times. I am guessing that even if I assign it to hard buttons on the remote, if I tap the hard button it will still be an instant change.

On the "learning" page there's a Custom button at bottom right.

I still wonder whether the programming of scenes at the Scenestyle dimmer that are triggered by IR have independent settings to those programmed to the dimmer buttons. This would explain why the fade rates when triggered by IR are different to when triggered by pressing a button. In this case there is nothing to change on the Harmony, it is the Scenestyle programming that is the issue. I would suggest speaking to Mode tech support to see how the fade times can be changed for scenes triggered by IR.

Solved this problem with my scenestyles.
You have to custom learn the commands in the RAW format. Works a treat with nice slow changes. Hope this helps.
