SKY HD Handset controlling TV

Hi
Please bear with me as this is my first post.

I am trying to see if my skyHD handse can control my TV Screen Size.
on Startup if default to 4:3 (even though it is all setup for 16:9 everywhere)
so have to change to 16:9 with tv remote.

wondered if the sky HD remote could do this. ??

Cheers

Pete

Re: SKY HD Handset controlling TV

The TV functions which the Sky remote will perform varies from TV to TV, so it's impossible to tell without knowing what TV you have.

It can also differ depending on the setup code you've used to programme the remote for your TV (most brands of TVs have multiple codes which work). You could try re-programming it with another code and see if that enables you to change the viewing format.

Re: SKY HD Handset controlling TV

Sorry Steve
I have a Toshiba 42" LCD tv
part of the WLT66 series
I think I will have just used the code which the engineer did at setup??

Hope that is SOME help

(what I was after was the button for widescreen viewing) on the sky HD controller
if in fact there is that option available.

Cheers
Peter

Re: SKY HD Handset controlling TV

OK Pete, that would be the Aspect command - it doesn't appear on the Sky HD remote for my Tosh which is a lot like yours.
Have you made the aspect setting in the Tosh menu and found that it doesn't work?

Re: SKY HD Handset controlling TV

Hi
Thanks for reply but I am at a loss as to :-

"Have you made the aspect setting in the Tosh menu and found that it doesn't work?"

What does that mean. it work on my Tosh remote h/set,
BUT as you say I cannot get the Sky HD Remote to replicate this .

Is this an impossible task then ???

Cheers
Pete

Re: SKY HD Handset controlling TV

I was getting at why you need to make the adjustment every time with the original remote: "default to 4:3 (even though it is all setup for 16:9 everywhere)". Have you tried through the Tosh picture menu to make 16:9 the default setting and found that it does not stay?
If you've tried every button on the Sky remote when it's set to control the TV, and none of them makes the aspect change you want, then it's not going to be possible. That's why I asked about making it unnecessary.

Re: SKY HD Handset controlling TV

Thanks for message

When I turn the sky on in the morning it nearly always switches to a channel.
BUT 9 times out of ten it starts up in 4:3 so needs resetting to 16:9
(all set to 16:9 though in menus)
Done this for a while now could be the fact I turn all power off at night with a powersave plug (except Sky box (but this goes into standby each night))

tried all buttons as you say so ..........

Cheers

Pete

Re: SKY HD Handset controlling TV

OK Pete - It's unusual for a Tosh not to retain its aspect setting but it looks like you've tried everything to get it to. Logi.
