Is there an Amp/Rec that uses a Bluetooth Remote Control?

The reason I ask is I'm looking to integrate a number of different devices into a HTPC system and want to drive them all using one remote (I know there are multi function remotes but one of the critical devices only works with a bluetooth remote).

Looking for HDMI inputs and outputs. If it will support spdif inputs which will 'combine' a spdif input with a hdmi (video only) input and produce a 'merged' HDMI output would be nice (but not crucial).

Thanks in advance guys.

Re: Is there an Amp/Rec that uses a Bluetooth Remote Control?

Logitech do the Harmony remotes that can function as a Bluetooth remote as well as IR via an adaptor:

Logitech > Remotes > Harmony Remotes > Harmony® Adapter for PLAYSTATION®3

That's interesting thanks, but it looks like the Harmony is really aimed at the PS3 (reading the engadget review suggests they have some scripts built into the unit itself).

I'm really looking for an Amp or Receiver that uses a BT remote (you'd have though at least Sony would do one!!).

There's not an AV receiver or amp that I know of that uses bluetooth for remote functionality.

I though it might have been the PS3 you were looking to control, but apparently not.

I think that remote also only has Bluetooth functionality with the PS3? I think the other devices it can control are infra red and not Bluetooth?

Since Blu-Link™ has Bluetooth™, what else can I operate with it?

No, you can't control your car, phone or one of the many other products with Bluetooth™ built-in. Blu-Link™ only contains the Bluetooth™ profile to control the PS3™.

As I think we have established, you won't solve it with an AV receiver, I'll move this to remote controls instead.

OK then - what is the device that needs this?

Re: Is there an Amp/Rec that uses a Bluetooth Remote Control?

It's for a PC running mythtv, the frontend needs to be hidden out of sight and is in an area with very high rf interference, therefore the need for a BT RC.

The amp can be in sight (the way the stand is designed) which is why I was trying to find an amp that supports BT.

The unit I suggested above should do the job (I've already written some code and tested the mythTV system using a PS3 remote). Because the harmony has 'scripts' in the unit itself it's less flexible for what I want (and also introduces another possible breakpoint).

Re: Is there an Amp/Rec that uses a Bluetooth Remote Control?

OK - that's too technical for me, and I don't know what the "scripts" are that you say Harmonys have in them, but I have to say that from what knowledge of amps I have, I haven't come across any that are controlled by anything other IR.

It's a shame really....I suppose someone (prob Sony) will bring one out at some point.

What about a Pronto Pro and wireless extender (as per my kit list and in my signature)? Better than blu tooth in that it uses your wireless network.

You can't buy them new anymore as Phillips have ceased producing the Pronto range, but they can literally operate anything via RS232, IR and even LAN control. Both units communicate via your wireless network so no interference. I actually use mine on a dedicated router, there's no line of site requirement so I can literally operate all my kit housed in my AV cabinet from the garden as long as I can pick up my network.

You should be ale to pick these up used for £300-£500 from the classifieds or certain auction sites I wont mention. However, you will need to be tech savvy as they ain't easy to set up and are not for the beginner. In fact you couldn't buy these off the shelf from any retailer, you had to buy them as part of a custom install and pay hundreds for the main remote to be programmed.

Let me know if you need to know more.

Cheers
Steve
