Harmony remotes - Power off override?

I've just got the Harmony 700 in the hope that it would be THE remote for my house/family.

Overall its fine, but whats annoying is that the power button is truly a power off button!

I.e if it thinks something is on it will switch it off.

So you are thinking well thats what its for, idiot!

But I was hoping that I could at least program it to power off only the stuff I want it to (and the critical part), for a particular activity ...

I.e If I'm in the watch TV activity and I swap to a listen to radio activity and THEN I press power off I want it to power off only the stuff for radio not the TV as well!

I do know the Philips TSU9200 has this ability (to program both the power on and off buttons on a per activity basis), but it is £200 more than the 700 ...

So unless someone knows of a sneaky way of overriding the power button, I guess I need two remotes?

Dom

Re: Harmony remotes - Power off override?

The whole point of Harmony Activities is that they automatically do what you've just asked for - set the power status of each device according to what you require at the time.
The Off button comes into play only at the end of a viewing and listening session, when it does turn off all the devices that are currently on and that are not set to be "always on".
The rest of the time, when you change from one Activity to another, you don't touch te Off button, the Harmony Smart State Technology powers off what you no longer need and powers on what you now need that isn't already on.
WatchTV would typically have the TV, a tuner, and an amplifier; Radio a receiver and the amplifier. When you change from the first to the second the TV and tuner power off; the receiver powers on.
You can make a whole lot of adjustments to the power settings to handle unusual situations, but yours are straightforward, so, as long as you set up - and use - your Activities correctly, you should have no problems.

Why would you want to do that? Surely your just entering another activity after turning the radio activity off. Just program an activity for what you want to do next and stay in an activity. If its just the TV you want then make a generic "Just TV" activity. That would turn off the radio stuff and leave the TV on.

The harmony cannot do it the way you describe that's for sure.

If you have the radio activity set up correctly then the TV probably shouldn't be on in the radio activity anyway?

More info needed.

I'm assuming not - more likely using the Off button each time?
The JustTV Activity could be an ordinary WatchTV, and I missed that point you caught, about the TV in a Radio Activity.

Well he said just leave the TV on, which means he may want everything off but the TV, a watch TV activity would have an amp (maybe) and a source. Watch TV would be all devices, but a Just TV would be just the TV!
