'Video sender'? av unit solid need remote eye?

Hi just installed a new TV with AV init. AV unit has a solid front so cant operate Blu-ray unless I open the front up which I dont want to have to do.

I heard it is possible to get something called a 'video 'sender' which plugges into the blu ray player somehow? This then can be placed ontop of the unit (apparently they are very small?).

Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they any good?

Many thanks

Wump

It's an IR extender you want, not a video sender. Do a Google search for Powermid.

Re: 'Video sender'? av unit solid need remote eye?

Hi Logiciel

Thanks I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted!

Bit confused though as I am an idiot

Does the following just plug into the DVD player or do I need to buy those XL pyramid thingies? I would like it to be as discreet as poss really. Anyone know if a new panasonic blu-ray player will be IR? or IRDA or whatever?

Marmitek IR Eye universal IR extender cable: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Many thanks in advance!

That's OK - you're just new to these things - nothing worse!
You won't need those cables and the little emitters, just the pair of pyramids, or one of the newer small types such as these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marmitek-Pow...7020884&sr=1-9 from the same people.
Nothing plugs in - you just point the remote at one unit in the usual way, that converts to RF and transmits it to the other unit that picks it up, converts it back, and sends it to the devices.
The player will work by standard IR, like almost all other audio-video devices.

Hi Logiciel

Thanks for your help. 20 quid is alot to pay to just extend an IR signal.

I like the look of the small magic eye thingies myself, is fine if it's cabled (as small as possible really!) It is only to go from back of DVD player in AV unit to sit on top of the unit which is about 30 cm distance.

Isnt there anything more discreet than that pyramid thingamy-bob?

Many thanks

Would this not work with my Blu-ray player? Has anyone any experience with these at all?

Smart Eye : Sky Remotes & Accessories : Maplin

Thank you

That's OK and I agree about the price.
What socket on the DVD are you planning to plug something into?
The "magic eye" is to plug into the spare "aerial out" socket on a Sky receiver.
You might be able to add it to another device from Maplin, the "Smart Blaster", for the DVD, but that adds another £30 to the cost.

Re: 'Video sender'? av unit solid need remote eye?

From my reading of the Smart Blaster it can make their "magic eye" work with other things than just Sky receivers.
Very few devices have sockets that you can plug IR cables into, and I've never come across a DVD player that has one.
The IR extender doesn't have to be Powermid's pyramids; there are plenty of other makes and types around.
This one is smaller and uses batteries instead of converted mains power, which is an advantage.

That's OK, and they're about three inches each way - an inch or two more than the newer version.
I used to use them successfully and the size was all right, but the batteries in the new ones would have been their recommendation to me now.
