Harmony Remote and LG TV input problems

Hi

I've gone through lots of threads here where people have had similar problems but not quite bottomed this one out - hope someone can help!

The problem is a new LG TV (47LF7700) that has 10 inputs (yes really

Antenna - Freeview
Freesat - built in Freesat
AV1-3 - not used
RGB(PC) - laptop when connected
Component - Wii when on
HDMI1 - Humax PVR
HDMI2 - LG DVD
HDMI3 - not used

Apart from the first two the only way to access the others is with a single "input" key which first displays the list of inputs, then sequentially moves along from the current input. It misses out inputs not currently connected - which is particularly bad in the case of an LG BD-370 DVD player connected to HDMI2 which when in standby does not register as "connected".

Configuring the Harmony (555 in this case):

Method 1 inputs (sequential) doesn't work as the List varies depending on whether items like the DVD are on or not.

Method 2 (direct inputs) won't work, as other than dedicated buttons for the first 2 inputs, none of the Inputxxx buttons for LG tv's seems to work (have tried them from Device menu). I will try loading other LG tv models, but not hopeful!

Method 3 does work, using "Input" as the key that shows the input list, "DirectionRight" (the list is horizontal) as the key that moves along the inputs, and "Select" as the key to select. This works because cycling the inputs with the direction key bizarrely DOES stop at every input, regardless of connection status.

The problem with Method 3 is that it takes ages to cycle the inputs - to go from HDMI2 to HDMI1 for example (DVD to PVR) has to go through 10 inputs, all visible on the screen as it happens. It makes you want to scream for a direct input method! I could try shortening the delay but it will still look naff flickering through all those inputs on screen.

So ... is there any better solution? There are references to Logitech having solved the LG input issue, but I can't find what this is anywhere. Also not sure if I can contact Logitech since I have the remote for a few years now - something about 30 days free support on their website.

Any advice gratefully received!
Thanks

Mark

Re: Harmony Remote and LG TV input problems

OK Mark - first preference try other models for Method 2, second set Inter-Key Delay as low as possible - that's it!

Re: Harmony Remote and LG TV input problems

Thanks Logiciel.

I will spend some time trying other LG models to see if any of their direct input commands work.

I think it was one of your posts in a reply to someone that mentioned that there was a documented fix by Logitech for something similar on an LG model - any idea where I could find this? LG seem to be selling lots of TVs lately and many people must be having problems.

Incidentally I wonder if my Method 3 routine (using direction keys rather than the input key, so every input does get cycled regardless of connection status) is worth putting in the Tips forum as it could be useful for others? It's inelegant but it does work!

Mark

Re: Harmony Remote and LG TV input problems

Thanks for the idea of passing on the tip Mark - please do so.
I can't recall anything special for LGs but there could be something if you try an advanced search - sorry not to have been of any real help.
