Logitech Remotes - They're not all that reliable are they?? - Or am I just unlucky??

I've had my original Harmony 895 replaced twice, so I'm on my third. This was mostly due to charging issues, but I also had a button that stopped working on one of them as well as the charging fault.

Now the 885 I also have, the screens just stopped working. Luckily it's only 7 months old, so once again it'll be going back.

It's not like they're cheap either. The 895 I originally got was rrp £250 I think. The current remotes I have still suffer from charging issues sometimes and I still need to give them a little wiggle on the charging base. The base is also an updated modified one from Logitech.

I think they really need to get their act together. Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I'd expect a £250 remote to last at least 5-7 years.

Anybody else having similar issues??

Re: Logitech Remotes - They're not all that reliable are they?? - Or am I just unluck

Hi. I had a similar experience with my now smashed 885, screen faded so much i couldn't read parts of it, not fitting in the cradle so charging it was a nightmare, every time i updated it there was always somrthing that didn't work as it did before. Eventually i got fed up with it when i tried to charge it and i thumped it so hard i smashed the screen, best thing i ever did apart from my hand hurting for a few days afterwards

Similar problem here with my previous Harmony remote (can't remember the model number) - one of the number keys stopped working, which effectively makes the whole remote useless. It was about 2 years old though - still too short a life for the prices they charge!

Re: Logitech Remotes - They're not all that reliable are they?? - Or am I just unluck

The first Harmony 785 i had wouldn't go into standby so the battery lasted about 30 minutes so i had that replaced. My current one is dying; all the keys on the right bottom half (play, pause, blue, yellow, 3, 9, #) have all stopped working after about 2 years. This is not good for a £100 remote even though it's 2 years old.

If it was less than two years old you'd have a definite warranty claim with Logitech, but it's still worth reporting it to them under consumer law.

Thanks. I just checked my emails and i actually bought it in Jan 2007 so it's well out of warranty. I've reported it to Logitech in any case and it has been escalated to their RMA team. Apparently in cases such as this, Logitech offer 50% off the price a new remote bought from their own website.

Yes, they have been known to do that - it's what I had in mind.

Re: Logitech Remotes - They're not all that reliable are they?? - Or am I just unluck

The Volume Up button on my 885 (bought Nov 2006) stopped working this past week. Just got off the phone to Logitech Support, and they suggested re-mapping that button to another on a temporary basis so that I can continue to use the remote. A bit inconvenient but this works fine.

They have also offered a 50% off 'out of warranty' coupon for a new/replacement device, which will be sent by email in the next day or so.

Given the 885 is not available anymore, anyone got any suggestions as to whether the Harmony One or Harmony 700 would be the better replacement?

Obviously there's a price difference but since buying the 885 I've not kept up with the new products so any comments welcome.

with that voucher, I'd buy one of the most expensive and then sell it on brand new in the classifieds or on eBay.

You could buy a 900 from Logitech for £175. Amazon are selling it for £299 so you should have no problem selling it for £280ish.

You should be able to make enough to almost pay for a replacement

That's actually not a bad idea

-edit- would the warranty be transferable?

If you haven't opened it then whoever buys it would be the first user (and that specific remote would be first activated against their account).

Can't see there being a warranty issue.

It's a bit of hassle but you could get up to £100 by doing this (depending where and how you sell it).

Yes, they did the same for me. I did however got mine replaced under warranty AGAIN.

The new one has a really annoying issue with the main direction button. When you click left it's fine and you just get the click noise, but when you click right it clicks and sends the signal but then clicks again. Now I know this isn't really an issue, but I find it very annoying to think that once again, it looks like a poor end product. I shouldn't really grumble as I only paid about £65 for this, but if I'd paid full price, I’d be well annoyed.

I wonder how long this one will last?

Re: Logitech Remotes - They're not all that reliable are they?? - Or am I just unluck

My 525's buttons have started to require a lot of pressure to function recently. It is now 3 years old but seeing people on here mention the 50% off voucher, I wrote Logitech a quick email and hey presto a voucher code.

Now it appears this can only be used to buy one from the US?
So has anyone used a code, I was wondering how much shipping and import tax etc come to?

Cheers

Worz

That IS remarkable!
What is there in the voucher to say it you can't use the UK or other site?

Are you sure you are on the UK website and not the American? There is an option to change country which should be at the bottom of the webpage. Your code, as mine does, should work on the UK prices too.

The UK site has "gb.en" in the address; the US has "us.en".

It may not do. After selecting UK, every time i log onto http://www [dot] logitech [dot]com/] it comes up as the UK site. I'm sure worz will be able to navigate there though

Remotes
Substitute us for gb and you get theirs; go to the minute link at the extreme bottom left and you get all the others.
