Question LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

Hi everyone, I have owned the LG since November 03 and had no problems until this Summer. The TV has been to the repairers twice due to it not turning on from standby, both times it was fixed. In the last couple of weeks I've noticed the screen (picture) getting darker and therefore the picture increasingly harder to see. I have turned up the colour, brightness, sharpness and contrast to their highest settings now and still it's a bit dark. Any ideas? - do you think it may need the bulb replacing?

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

My bulb went pop today. Same as above noticed screen getting darker. But still watchable. Then this morning wouldn't turn on. I removed the cage containing the bulb and sure enough it had gone. Looking online prices seem to vary between £250 and £300 per bulb. And not sure if they come with the cage or not. Seriously wondering if it's even worth replacing.

I should be able to get you one for around £140 if that helps.

Let me know,

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

Guess what, I too have had my LG RE44SZ21R tv for about 3 years and the bulb has gone. To add insult to injurie I have Currys Coverplan, BUT, the small print says that the Bulbs are not covered. I,ve searched the net and can only find bulbs between £280 - £300.. How do I get these ones for £140?

Let me know,

Thanks

Badger.

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

I had the same problem with my LG. It was the bulb. Got one off ebay from china under a £100 delivered within a week. Search (worldwide) OSRAM P-VIP 100-120/1.3 E23h

Only problem is tv still dark!! Have altered TV settings by pressing menu on tv and remote at same time but settings will not save.

Help !

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

I don't know if this helps - I saved it ages ago after I bought a 52" LG - I don't know if resetting lamp hours will make any difference.

"alrighty guys have the answer for those of you that have a lg dlp
press the menu button on the front panel
while holding button on panel press and hold the menu button on the remote control
service menu will appear and then keep pressing the menu button until you come to lamp hour resetting
press ok on remote
and now lamp hour is reset
good luck with it"

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

Had mine from Ebay in end...similar to this one 110149487139. Was a bit nervous about ordering from China, but turned up in less than a week and is still going strong <touch wood>. Simple install too.

Exclamation Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

Hi Everyone,

Re: bulbs

I just bought one from ebay for £99 but unfortunately it's not the bulb that's the problem!

The internal fuse blew, replaced that and now the set goes thro' the normal startup routine ie. amber led and then green led but there appears to be no power getting to the lamp and the set now reverts back to standby mode.

Had COMET engineer in, fully explained to them at initial phone call that it was not the lamp but 'lo and behold' the engineer turns up with a new lamp and nothing else, now I have the privlege to pay them £70 for him telling me what I already told them. Engineer now reckons it is one of 2 Power boards according to his diagnostic program on his laptop and will get back to me with a price!.

Anyone any ideas on this and the approx cost of the power boards for these sets?.

At the moment the local tip is looking good for this 18 month old set!

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

Thanks for the reply anyway Eallin......

COMET Engineer got back to me today with a quote of £300 for the board + the usual call out etc.and no quarantee that would be the final fix, would be good money after bad I think, more than the set is worth!

Time to cut my losses and get shot of it!

Cheers!

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

Sorry to have to say it, but yes I agree. You could probably buy a working used one for that money.

It's a real shame because the SD picture is great on these sets when they're working; not seen a better rear pro, plasma or LCD for the money IMO.

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

I think we may be in the same boat alexnic. My tv now decides when it wants to fire up. And when it does the picture is still really dark until altered in the (tv menu + controller menu) menu.

My local LG engineer wants £60 off me for dropping tv off to them. How does that work?? But they are really nice people they will knock that off the total bill if I decide it's economic to repair!!!!

What to do? 18 months of use and it needs repair - I loved my LG (lucky goldstar my ar5e) until recently - but 18 months is a joke thats almost a £100 a month!!!!

Re: LG RE44SZ21R DLP TV - Bulb problem?

t1066, have you tried the LG technical department (assuming there is one)? If it's just a case of resetting something/forcing the menu to retain its settings, they should be able to advise you over the phone. In my experience, the CS department is utter pants, but the techies might be okay. Worth a try...
