Panasonic nvhs825 tape stuck

I realise that there are many posts about stuck tapes, but, all VCRs are different. This Panasonic is used occasionally for our old archive. The tape from a friend played albeit very badly, tried retracking, wound it through and back. The tape will NOT eject. The VCR powers down instead. Took the top off, the tape is wrapped and is winding slowly through although the front panel show not. Powering off from the front panel doesn't stop the tape!
destroying the tape is not an option

any thoughts anyone please

ps -this is my first post !!

Welcome to the forum.

Is there no error F number displayed on the front panel?

The slow winding tape is misleading incidentally...and arises because you have the top off and are letting in light to the sensors.

Re: Panasonic nvhs825 tape stuck

thanks for the speedy reply. There is no error message on the front panel. After pressing the eject button, or holding down the stop on the remote, there is some of the usual eject whirring noise and then the vcr goes into standby

Re: Panasonic nvhs825 tape stuck

There will be a broken tooth in the mechanism causing it to jam. Probably on the supply side gear.

Not a diy job.

Re: Panasonic nvhs825 tape stuck

A decent engineer would.

And would have it repaired in an hour or so.
