| Re: Grundig vs660
I'm not familiar with the VS660, but on the VS680 "digital" referred to a digital frame store used for perfect freeze-frame (pause) and other trickery such as zoom-in, oil-paint effect, mosaic and strobe.
It has a tuner purely capable of analogue reception, in fact I expect it predates the introduction of DVB-T (On Digital) broadcasts by several years.
CASS is Grundig's equivalent to Eject (which wouldn't display well on a 7-segment display) and means it wants to eject the tape - there is a jam/loading problem/no tape detected.
If the problem is solely caused by foreign matter in the cassette mechanism, there are two areas to investigate - only to be undertaken by someone competent/confident in VCR dismantling.
1. Sensors, there are several optical sensors on posts which simply determine whether there is black magnetic tape or clear start/end tape present. If these are contaminated the control logic will be confused and try to eject.
2. Mechanical. A drive-belt contaminated so it slips - meaning it is never able to reach the status expected by the controller so it throws a wobbly, or gears jammed or jumped out of sync resulting in the same.
It's possible the Grundig has what's known as a Panasonic G-deck which is quite a well-respected mechanism therefore probably familier to a service tech, should it be considered for repair.
