Question Humax, Tvonics or other Freeview +

I currently have a Thompson freeview recorder that keeps breaking up - it is now going back. (bought from ASDA - they currently have a luxor and sagem model) They have told me I can change it for one of these. If there isn't a better choice at the moment I am tempted to try the luxor and if this doesn't work well for a year, hope that when I change this one there is a better choice.

I want to buy a new one - no card reader as I don't want TuTV. I am really confused by all of the recorders out there. I need it to be really easy to work as it is for my mother. In Which magazine the best buys are shown as Humax or TVonics - on this forum they don't seem to be rated.

Any suggestions.

Ginette

Welcome to the forum Ginette.

I'm moving this to the PVR section where you should get more appropriate help.

Do you mean the picture breaks up when you use the Freeview tuner in the recorder? This could be due to a weak signal, either because of your location and/or ineffective aerial; and any other recorder - even an expensive one -might have the same problem. Can you not check the signal with another Freeview box, before spending money on a new recorder? (I'm assuming you don't have a TV with inbuilt Freeview tuner; but if you do, then what sort of reception do you get with that?)

If the Thompson you currently have is the Top Up TV version then exchanging it for the Luxor will probably be moving from the frying pan to the fire. They both have similar software.
