Problems with Goodmans PVR

I had perfect picture on all channels with my GHD1621F2 Freeview PVR until about 2 weeks ago when I started getting terrible interference on the five group of channels.

I changed the aerial and all the cables for double screened type as well as installing a masthead amplifier which cured the problem.

However if I record from any of the five channels (as well as channel 4) the recording (and only the recording) displays terrible interference.

Can anyone suggest anything to try?

Re: Problems with Goodmans PVR

I was hoping someone with more expertise than me might offer you some help. But since there has been no other response, let me say this. What you describe seems almost impossible. A PVR records exactly the same digital signal used when you view live - thus, if the signal is perfect when viewed live then the same perfect signal should be recorded.

Are you quite sure that what you said is absolutely accurate - that there is interference on the recording but not on the live viewing? Have you checked it by watching a programme on one of the "bad" channels while recording the same programme, and later playing it back. If so, do you find that the live viewing is OK, while the recording is corrupted?

If you do find this, then my only thought is that there is something radically wrong with the PVR's recording software or hard disc, and you should seek a return/repair depending on whether it is still under warranty.

On the other hand, if you check the situation as I've suggested above, and find that both live viewing and playback show the same interference, then I would say that your efforts to boost the signal have not been as successful as you thought.

Re: Problems with Goodmans PVR

Its definatly on the recording and not on the the live.

From what I can discover the first tuner in series always does the recording if a single event is being recorded and the second tuner in the series is the one that always displays live channels.

I discovered this by connecting the aerial directly to tuner 2 (Live picture perfect but box unable to record) Connecting tuner 1 and not tuner 2 results in a no signal message but still an ability to record.

It would seem that there is something wrong with the first tuner in the series.

Have you checked the tuner interconnect cable on the rear of the unit? Otherwise I would agree with you conclusion although if your signal is marginal it has been reported that some PVRs add an extra loading on the tuners when recording.
