PVR advice for my techophobe mum

I'm looking for something reliable for my mum who is currently using my old Tevion which isn't the most robust and reliable of machines. Does anyone know if the 'Luxor TU-TV2500 250GB Digital TV Recorder' (on sale at John Lewis) is any good and how easy it is to use?

Alternatively, any suggestions for other units are more than welcome.

It needs to be as easy as you can get to operate as she's a bit of a technophobe however, now that I've got her using the Tevion I don't want her to get frustrated with it's shortcomings or this will put her off PVR's for life.

If your Mum can live with the quirks of the Tevion then she should be happy with the Alba ALDTR160 160GB Digital TV Recorder at Argos here. The Alba uses the same Cabot "middleware" as the Tevion but is has a much better implemented Grid type EPG (Guide) and other user facilities. It also has full Freeview+ functionality which the Tevion's lack. One thing the Tevions have which the Alba and most other PVRs don't have is the optional List View EPG. If she uses this and strongly prefers it you may have to consider this. The Alba has it's quirks but is way ahead of the Tevion's in terms of relibility.

Before considering the 'Luxor TU-TV2500 read some of the threads in the Top Up TV forum here. Like the Alba the Luxor is made by Vestel but unlike most Vestel PVRs uses the TUTV software which is completely different to the other Vestel PVRs.

Just to add my support to ^^ ... all the family of PVRs which includes that Alba are very, very user friendly, I'm almost in love with them and just wish they'd bring out bigger, stronger, faster models

Re: PVR advice for my techophobe mum

Thanks folks, she's not really come to terms with the Tevion yet but I'm only a phone call away. Although a phone call a night is getting a bit much ;-)

I'd love to get her a Toppy as I'm absolutely delighted with mine but I really do think it'd be a white elephant as she'd simply not use it because she'd find it too complicated.

So the Alba and the Luxor are looking good now, that's great. Hmmmm decisions decisions

Picked one of the Alba's up for her today, went over and installed it.

Simple as anything and she was even playing around with it when I left, things are looking good
