Pvr / hdmi query

Hi,

I recently upgraded my tv to a new plasma tv which is hd ready with built in freeview. I've noted that the picture quality within the tv freeview is better than through my sagem digital recorder. In order to get the same quality for my digital recorder, do I need a digital recorder with a hdmi connection ?

Hardware details below :

TV - LG 5000

PVR - Sagem DTR 64160 (No HDMI slots)

Thanks

Re: Pvr / hdmi query

First thing you should do is check/ensure ALL of the following:

- the Sagem is set to output RGB signal from the SCART TV output. This will be a setup menu item.
- you are using the correct socket on the Sagem
- the SCART cable in use is fully wired with all 21 pins connected (most are, but check)
- you are using a RGB enabled SCART input on the TV - see the manual
- (if necessary) the TV is set to receive RGB (it may be automatic but check).

If any ONE of these is not right then you will get Composite Video which is fairly nasty. So, having done all that, you can ensure it is all working at RGB by returning to the Sagem and changing its output away from RGB to something else - like Video, CVBS, Composite (whatever they call it). If you can't see any difference on the TV then something is still missing. If you can, set it back to RGB and.....

.......finally make sure that all the user controls on the TV (for brightness, contrast, colour) are properly set up (i.e to your choosing) for this input.

That should get you results which are close to, if not indistinguishable from, those you might expect from an HDMI interconnect. Try it and see, anyhow.
