Problem using Humax 9200 to video projector using Scart to RGB cable

Hi folks,

I am trying to connect my Humax 9200 to my Panasonic PTAX200 projector using the RGB input on the projector.

The lead I have tried has a standard scart plug on one end, leading to 3 plugs at the other end (one red, one blue and one green.)

I plug the Scart into the Humax’s TV Scart port, and select RGB in the Humax preferences. The other component plugs then go into the corresponding sockets at the rear of the projector, but I don’t get a picture at all.

If I use a composite cable, and plug it in the yellow socket on the back of the Humax and also the projector, I do get a picture, although it is very poor quality.

Maplin do a Scart to Component video adaptor for about 25 quid. Would that be doing anything different from my existing scart to RGB cable??

I would really like to get that RGB signal form my Humax into my projector, and so any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Yes...it would convert RGB Video to Component Video...which a simple lead cannot do.

If its this one from Maplins, then it is effectively no different from your current lead. You need a RGB scart to component convertor.

Therein, I suspect, lies your problem. Based on looking at a picture of the Panasonic, it has an input labelled Component - which isn't the same as RGB. And therefore, as others have said, you need a RGB>Component convertor. If I were you, though, I'd try using SVideo first (if the Humax has an SVideo outlet). It may be good enough and may cost less to achieve.

Either of the Humax TVscart or VCRscart can be set to S-video output and a suitable lead/adapter should be available for little money - £4.95 or less for the scart/RCA+S adapter, plus suitable S-video & RCA audio leads.

Correct, component only needs 3 connections (it's still RGB but in a modified format) as the required sync and blanking signals are carried with the signal. RGB requires a 4th conductor to carry the sync and blanking. Depending on the quality of your projector personally I would go for the RGB to component converter. I bought one of fleabay from the US and it did not cost very much (It works brilliantly). The Topfield5800 incidentally has component output built in.
