£100 pvr

Im looking to buy a PVR for christmas but im really having trouble as my only experience has been with one supplied by Virgin with their tv package, so my knowledge is lacking.

There are a few things I would like it to do
Be able to record and watch at the same time as well as record 2 at the same time.
Record series
Have a full tv guide
Have a reasonable size HDD

Its being purchased as a present and will be used in a small bedroom so it needs to be reasonably quiet as well.

Obviousely the cheaper it is the better as well but im willing to spend around £100.

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: £100 pvr

Im more than pleased with my wharfedale PVR its a DTR 160HDMI and I got it for just under £60 through a deal i found on hotdeals.

Does 2 hour time shift for live TV. 2 recordings at once, and works well at 720p as it does a far better job deinterlacing than my Samsung TV!

Only bug with it is the sound breaks up when your in the EPG.

Hi Jonny

Sounds good! Does the picture stutter at all on playback from the HD?

Re: £100 pvr

Are there any other suggestions?

As its a present I would rather it doesn't have any obvious problems with it. Thanks for the quick reply though.

Re: £100 pvr

The Humax does have a lot of great features but its only at that price due to it being Grade A and is currently out of stock. With it being a grade A product there is no way to know when another might be up.

The price elsewhere is a lot more expensive.

Re: £100 pvr

I just spotted the 9150T, it seems to have very similar specs but at a much more reasonable price.

Does anyone know how well that performs?

Re: £100 pvr

Let's just check, since you didn't explicitly mention it; all these devices are Freeview PVRs, and will require an aerial which is suited to Freeview reception at your location. If you knew all that already, sorry for bringing it up.

I guess it has a few times usually at the start but nothing too bad as the sound seems to stay okay. Watched survivors last night and no problems with that from the disk.

I didnt go with Humax as I'm not all that happy with the SD picture on my Foxsat HD box through HDMI.

Yes I had that model and the HDMI upscaling is absolutely fantastic when you consider the price of the unit. Certainly puts the current Humax HDMI effort to shame.

I've been looking at this for my mam and dad, along with Asda's LEPVR0801.

Not found much info yet but it seems that the 2500 may be made by Wharfdale or Vestel if that's any help!?!

The LUXOR TUTV2500 is made by Vestel but it has the Top Up TV software installed which is completely different from the Vestel/Cabot software used on other Vestel PVRs.

You probably need to read the threads on here and on Digital Spy and judge for yourself. It depends on what your priorities are.
