signal from hannington - should be bexley ?

Howdy - my Humax 9200 is missing ITV1 and C4. Checking the signal / quality etc, i see 20% signal, 10% quality for both, no wonder they're missing, but the signal area is shown as Hannington , again for both.

I live in West Oxfordshire, so really ( as with the other channels ) shouldnt i be getting the signal from Oxford/Bexley ? ( this is how its shown when i tested BBC1/2 etc. in signal / quality 58% + 100% respectively

Any ideas -aerial problem ? Box problem ?, possibly EPG ?- its on latest firmware

Going back to Terrestrial TV, i can get all 5 channels ok. Just not through the PVR

May as well add that it appears to be all the MUX2 channels, Cant get any of em.

Would this be a recent problem with this MUX , does anyone know?

I only installed this Humax today, yet last night i had no problems with MUX 2 using my buggy old Thomson

PHOBIC, Might be better to post this in the Freeview forum, rather than here.

Re: signal from hannington - should be bexley ?

Does your aerial point towards Oxford, or Hannington? It's plausible that your box is seeing signal from both, and is latching onto the first (of each mux) that it finds, as it scans. Which would, given the channel numbers involved, possibly get Mux 2 from Hannington and (some of?) the rest from Oxford. Do you have any "extra" programms, numbered in the 800 range, on your list? These may be the stronger versons of those you are missing.

Humax boxes aren't very bright when it comes to re-tuning themselves. They have a tendency to retain old data and get confused. So you have to clear them down. It can (I gather) be done like this........

First step: disconnect aerial. Scan again. This should find nothing, and it should clear the thing down. Then reconnect and rescan.

Next step (if the result repeats your earlier experience): one possible option would be to get an aerial attenuator. Rescan while disconnected again, as above, to clear it. Then, plug the attenuator in. Re-scan. Hopefully this might reduce the signal from the unwanted tranmsitter below the reception threshold and allow the box to find only the stronger signal. Once done you can remove the attenuator.

If you get hold of the mux channel numbers you need, (Welcome page | ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002 and search for Oxford or Hannington). At the channel scan stage change the option from auto to manual. Put in the first uhf channel nos scan and save the results. Repeat for the other 5. Stops the box picking up unwanted duplicates from other in range transmitters

Wasnt too clear on which forum, so as i thought it may be a PVR problem, stuck it here Would be happy for a mod to move it if i chose wrong

Many thanks Graham and LV426 ( isnt that from Aliens ? )

Will try those methods. Dont even know where Hannington is !! I'm assuming it points to Oxford as i never picked up form Hannington on the previous box.

Hannington is at Kingsclere about 7 miles SE of Newbury. If you are NW of Oxford you could possible get a signal from Hannington even if your aerial is pointing at the Oxford transmitter.

Re: signal from hannington - should be bexley ?

I'm 12 ish miles west of Oxford, on the A40 going towards Cheltenham, so why i'd get Hannington, i dont know.

Anyways , i tried clearing the old data by scanning without aeriel, then scanned again with aeriel in, and all MUX 2 channels still got hannington, with very little signal, ( 25% signal or less and 0% quality ) and hence no MUX 2 channels at all ( again )

I checked the channel number for Bexley MUX 2, and they appear to be all channel 68, where as all my MUX 2 channels were 43 - so i manually put in channel 68 for C4 and ITV1 and still nothing.
Maybe its the aeriel ?

Strange that my old Thomson, which was a nightmare of weird buggy problems, always managed to get MUX 2 channels from Bexley. I swear i havent touched anything, including the aeriel ( roof mounted ) apart from changing over the Thomson for the HUmax

you need to do a factory reset without the aerial as just clearing the channel list with a blank scan does not reload the software

Re: signal from hannington - should be bexley ?

Graham - just a little update here - i went into the menu and there's something called antennae power ( enable/disable )
I have no idea what it was, and because i'm technically sub normal ( see my username ) i just enabled, cos i was clutching at straws.

I then did an Auto search as normal, aeriel in, and it found less channels today ( 63 ) than it did when i was having problems with MUX 2...( was getting 80+ channels despite no MUX2 channels ) So instead of hitting ' SAVE ' i chose to ' DELETE ' as i had never done that, and scan again. It still found only 63 channels, still 20+ less than i found the other day, but strangely, when i was getting 80+ channels, i never got any MUX 2

Well now it seems after my little DELETE/RESCAN function, i've got all MUX 2 - weird or what !

I bet that Antennae power thing has nothing to do with it, just coincidence, but whatever i've done, i've unknowingly got ITV / C4 / ITV2 et al, all back in the fold.

Thanks to you all for trying to help.

The antenna power simply puts 5v DC on the coax to provide power for a mast head amplifier (If you don't have an amplifier it should be off). The factory reset without the aerial solved your problem
