Dumping Sky+ & keeping sky with diff PVR

Hi - Apologies if this is the wrong place for this post!

I have Sky+ and can't get Freeview. I want to ditch the Sky subscription and keep their free offering but want to still be able to record.

I understand I can not use the Sky+ box and need to buy a new PVR.

Does anyone know if I can do this and still watch one channel and record another, as per Sky+?

Anyone have any recommendations for a cheap, decent PVR?

Thanks

Andrew

Look in the Freesat sub-forum of the satellite forum...Humax Freesat HDR.

Hi, Thanks I assume the unit goes between the TV and sky+ box such that the Sky box is the tuner?

No it will totally replace your sky+, it has its own tuner for satelite. Essentially its a Sky+ box for FTA broadcasts (including FTA HD broadcasts) and no subscription required.

Andrew, In case you're confused, the point is that you originally said that you want to keep Sky's free offering, but be able to record it. However, what Sky offer free is more or less what is also offered free by Freesat, a satellite service which has nothing to do with Sky, controlled by the BBC & ITV.

It is quite legal for you to retain your Sky dish, and use it for Freesat, but to do that (& to record programmes) you need a Freesat PVR, as suggested above. There is no need to re-align the dish, as the same satellite(s) transmit Freesat as transmit Sky.
