Dazzle DVD recorder connection problem

I want to use my Dazzle DVD recorder to record/burn VHS tapes from video recorder to DVD on my new laptop (HP pavilion DV7-1110 ED with Vista SP1).
On the back of my vid.recorder (Sony SLV-SE80VC2) there are 2 Scart sockets: LINE 1 (TV) with an arrow in & out and DECODER LINE 3-IN with an arrow in.
I also have a switchable Scart, which I plugged into LINE 1 (TV); on the switchable Scart I make sure the switch is pointed to the arrow "going out" to Dazzle DVD recorder.
I went through the whole procedure of selecting the source: options: video composite, PAL, Dazzle DVC 100, VHS record - the burner etc.; format the DVD first, but as soon as I started the vid. recorder and hit "Record" I got an error message "Burn error".
I've tried switching the arrow on the switchable Scart to point to the other direction ("going in"), even plugged my switchable Scart into the DECODER LINE 3-IN, plugged in an S-video cable in the switchable Scart (adjusted the options into S-video) - nothing helps, I keep getting the "Burn error" message.
Although I can see that my vid. recorder is playing, the window on the upper right is black.
Does someone know what's going on and what I did wrong ?
BTW: the laptop burner is doing fine, I've burned some DVD's.
Thanks for any help on this matter.

Re: Dazzle DVD recorder connection problem

What type of lead is it...a switchable scart to what?
Is it a commercially pre-recorded tape you're trying to copy?

The switchable scart is a Profigold with 24k-goldplated contacts, it has video, audio (L & R) and S-video sockets. All these cables are plugged in to the Dazzle which is in turn plugged in to my laptop through a USB cable.
The tape I'm trying to copy is taped by a firm. I'm going to try another self-recorded tape, find out whether I could copy this one. Never thought there might be 'copy protection' on it, since the error message implies a 'burn error'
Thanks for your response .

Re: Dazzle DVD recorder connection problem

It's probably copy protection on the tape triggering the error. Bad software porgramming means the wrong error message is being displayed.

Dazzle capture cards have had copy protection detection built in since the early to mid 2000's.

Dazzle is currently owned by Pinaccle so I would expect the copy procection detection to still be present.

I've tried copying from a self-made tape instead, with either S-video cable or video (yellow) cable plugged on one end to the switchable scart, the other end to the Dazzle and I still get the "burn error" message.
I'm running out of options .
Anybody any clue what I did wrong ?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for your respons, however it's not the copy protection, since I've tried copying from my own (self-taped) tape, and still get that "burn error" message.

Hi syren

Are you burning straight to disc at the same time as capturing from the tape?

It might be worth trying just to capture to the PC HDD and see if you still get an error.

The step-by-step Dazzle software requested to initialize the DVD first, afterwards I need to click on the button "start capturing", so I guess it's burning to disc as well as capturing from the tape.
I need to look for a way to only capture to the HDD, as you suggested.
Thanks for your respons.
