Best pvr For £80

Hi looking at buying a pvr but don't have a great budget £80 max.Was looking at the thompson Thomson DT16021S but have heard negative reviews on most thompson models.
Im not bothered about topup tv or setanta but would like twin tuners and epg with series link.Any ideas would be great

Re: Best pvr For £80

Some people have had problems with Thomson PVRs, but not me apart from the occasional "skipping" on playback. But look at the forums and every manufacturer has faulty items, though admittedly some more than others.

I have a 16300 PVR from Asda. £80 and they refund or replace any time during the guarantee period.

This machine has had a number of software updates, and last week 3.11 was tested, then rolled back to 2.99. So the promised big update is imminent.

If you have an Asda nearby, I suggest you try one-there's no risk involved.

Yes, made by Vestel and the same as the Wharfedale TUTV PVR except the Luxor has the front panel controls which the Wharfedale lacks. I see the Comet price is now reduced to £79.99.

Re: Best pvr For £80

Argos had them on display but under the same code as thompson so i asked for a view and it was the luxor model so bought it, we had a bit of money on the nector card to use.Anyway all setup fine but the picture quality was rubbish,we were very disappionted with it.After viewing the same channels on the sammy tv you could see the difference. So to cut a long story short the supplied scart lead is poor, used my old scarts which were good quality and the picture was greatly improved. My only other complaint would be series link which only works if programs are tagged, aint found any that are yet.
You get a free month to topuptv and 9 month sentanta for free for £20 connection( so not Free)
So for £80 im happy for now

Re: Best pvr For £80

I saw this in Asda Price yesterday with my Dad. He's after a TopUp compatible set with the ability to watch one and ecord another so something on this line would be ideal. I also saw an Asda's own LEPVR0801, which looked nicer...

Any views or comparisons?!?

The only thing I've seen on here is that the Asda model is a bit noisy, but others say it's fine... Matter of opinion I suppose... And hearing ability!

I'm not very clued up with PVR's if the truth is known - I'm still trying to convince him of the merits of a DVD recorder with a FreeView reciever. I'm also hoping whatever he chooses will be quite simple so I don't get too many calls saying "Come round now... Yer mam's watching dancing on ice and Match of The Day starts in 10 minutes".

Cheers all!

He would find PVRs much easier to use than a DVD Recorder.

Fair point... In a sense I was being selfish as they are more likely to get sky or cable than I am and had crossed my mind that if they choose the DVD option they could tape stuff for me!!! Heheh!

Re: Best pvr For £80

Just a follow up... They picked one up and all went well for a day or so, but it's gone very very slow now. The remote is very unresponsive and jumps through menus at will. Freezes a fair bit, noisy... I'm afraid to say, as a certain Royal once said... We are not impressed!

Poetic license!
