i have just unsubscribed to sky but miss the recording element of it,i to have just purchased the daewoo pvr to get around this, i live in an area where the reception via the normal aerial is quite poor, (can i use the sky dish as my aerial?) or should the signal be okay with the roof aerial using a tv booster. has anybody any suggestions. i am currently watching i presume freeview chanels through sky although i do have freeview tv?

No you can't use the Sky "dish" as an aerial to receive analogue or Freeview TV.

You can't be watching Freeview through your Sky box although you will get some of the same programmes. If you have a Freeview TV how does that perform on the Freeview Channels?

If you are not getting very good reception on your "normal" i.e analogue TV you are unlikely to get adequate Freeview reception on the PVR. But why not try it and see? A booster, particularly a "masthead" version mounted near the aerial will help but whether the signal will then be adeqaute only trying it will give the answer to that.

Re: Can freeview box record sky signal?

You need a DVD Recorder with a HDD to record from Sky through the scart input.

Re: Can freeview box record sky signal?

A dish cannot be used as an aerial and vice versa. One is set up to receive from an orbiting satellite, and the other is designed to receive from a ground based transmitter.

Your PVR will require an aerial. Exactly what depends wholly on reception conditions where you are. The roof aerial may be fine as it is; a "booster" may be ineffective or it may work, depending on the cause of the poor reception.

Your best option would be to consult with a local aerial installer (member of the CAI) about what is or isn't possible at your location, and what it might cost.
