Hi,
I've just bought a Sony RDR-HXD890 and was hoping to record some old VHS tapes(using a Toshiba VCR) to HD/DVD.I've connected them using scart though the L1 input on the HD/DVD.
When i press play on the VCR i get good sound but a poor quality image and a message-"TV system of this signal is different from the recorder's setting"
I've tried various settings on the Video input of the Sony but have had no luck.
Am i being dense and missing something?
Any help would be appreciated.

1: How do the tapes look if played back "normally" using the same Toshiba VCR?
2: Are the tapes home-made, recorded off air, or bought ones?

Commercial vhs tapes usually have macrovision copy protection which messes with the synchronisation signalling and therefore stops analogue copying

I've just tried using another VCR with the HD/DVD and it works perfectly.So i tried my VCR straight into the Tv and it doesn't work.
I should have tried that first! Doh!

It seems a bit odd that the VCR should pack up at the exact same time that i try to use it through a new HD/DVD.
I was using the VCR a few days ago and it was fine.
