Humax suddenly keeps freezing!

After 2.5 years of trouble free use my Humax 9200T has suddenly started freezing up every 5 mins or so. It is running with Sofware version 1.00.21 which I believe is the latest issue. Is it on its way out, or is there cure?

Any advice appreciated.

Re: Humax suddenly keeps freezing!

Have you tried the usual tricks of switching off or unplugging for a few minutes?

Re: Humax suddenly keeps freezing!

Switch the power off.
Disconnect the aerial from the antenna-in socket.
Power on.
If required write down any event timers from the schedule, and any personal preference settings that have been adjusted.
Do a defaults setting.
Power off, reconnect aerial, power on.
Scan for channels.
Input again the personal preferences, and set the timers up in the EPG.

If the problem persists, consider that you may have to format the HDD too, but if has has come this far and is fixed, you will not have deleted any existing recordings.

Re: Humax suddenly keeps freezing!

Nvingo

Just after i posted the thank you, I noticed you create DVD from your Humax.

I have read many articles on this subject but have failed miserably in my efforts so far. Which method do you use? I have tried to use the Media ELinker software supplied but it fails to recognise the Humax when conected so I don't get much further.

Any advice?

Cheers

Re: Humax suddenly keeps freezing!

if you have a dvd recorder simply connect via scart humax to dvd and play the humax and press record on the dvd recorder.

Re: Humax suddenly keeps freezing!

Hi coxi, yes I use the USB transfer method with Media Controller (the third-party application) on a WindowsXP PC.
Mostly I then run the transferred file (a programme stream, .TS) through VideoRedo TV Suite to edit and store on a USB HDD accessible to a Media client to watch on TV, or write to DVD. (Movies I compress to Xvid and store on the HDD using Auto Guardion Knot - it's worth reducing 150+ 1.5GB+ files to around 800MB each - they still play fine on said media client device).

A significant minority of PVR9200 users (who try USB transfer) partly or totally fail, there are compatibilty issues with some USB host chipsets (those in the PC/laptop), along with the cable itself - apparently it should be of limited lenth (and of course USB2.0 compliant), or extended with amplified extension cables. The one I use though is a passive single cable of 10' length and connected directly between a PC-motherboard USB socket and that on the front of the Humax. With that I normally achieve transfer at 600KB/s with one or two passes (Media Controller error correction). I've tried with USB hub at one or other end but that seemed to decrease reliability.
