Transfering AVI files to a PVR?

hello all, i have limited space under my tv and was wondering if such a device exists that i can use as a PVR but also that i can transfer avi files from my PC to it via network or usb and then view those on my tv? what format does a PVR use? would it recognize avi files if you could get them onto the hard drive?

thanks

Re: Transfering AVI files to a PVR?

Archos 5th generation products the 605 & 705 will do that via wi-fi or usb and will store & play them as avi files. To output to your tv you would need either the DVR Station or mini dock. The former will also let you record television via sky, freeview box or cable telly or things from another source like dvd onto the Archos. Check out their products here http://www.archos.com/home.html?country=gb&lang=en
Amazon and other places sell their products a good deal cheaper than buying direct from Archos generally.
