Newbie question

Hi,
I'm thinking of replacing my broken dvd recorder with a PVR (Maybe the Thompson but still looking). Does anyone know of one that will allow the recording off an external (sky) box? Don't know if it's possible so looking for help/advice.

No PVR can record from an external source - a PVR only records from its own internal digital tuner(s). A TIVO (which is a hard drive only recorder which can record from external connections) could do it - but they are obsolete. A DVD recorder with a hard drive can do it - and will be a lot cheaper than a TIVO, if you could source one. A Sky+ box is a Sky box with its own hard drive - so you wouldn't need to archive from the Sky+ box to anything else, unless you intended to fill the hard drive currently in a Sky+ box.

But, and its a big one, you will need to be watching the channel you are recording and unable to set the recording via an EPG.
