Hi

i have a unique but very old Grundig VS 660 VCR and I'm getting a error code on the display when i turn it on it says AO.can some please tell me what the problem is?

Well Googling for "grunding VS600 a0" and/or "grunding error a0" comes up with a few possible ideas

- needs new battery on motherboard
- "stuck in timer lock, A0 on display"

iv got a new battery in it and still displaying AO.any more ideas please help?

Try disconnecting from the mains supply, hold in the STANDBY button on the front panel and reapply mains power.

I also think it defaults to "A0" if no channels are tuned...so try going through the installation/tuning menu.

it want let me tune it because the AO is still there and now when you switch it on it automatically goes into timer mode.it also now says F1 and the timer mode is flashing? any idea JayCee?

Try it again and hold the button in while plugging in to the mains...do not let go and hold it in for at least 1 min while checking the display to see if it changes.
Your "Grundig" is actually a rebadged Philips VCR and I've had these symptoms on one many years ago.

still no joy it still says AO and says that it will start recording by timer at 9 now.what now?

no pic or sound mate it just starts recording blank tape and there a tape stuck in the player so when i switch it on it starts off the timer and says will record at a certain time :S

It may be locked in "One Touch Record" mode.
Try pressing the record button repeatedly until it stops...I know what I'm saying sounds daft but try it.
Most modern VCRs have this "OTR" mode whereby if you press the record button once it will record until you manually press stop or switch it off...on OTR mode if you press the record button twice it will record for 30 mins and then switch off, if you press it 3 times it will record for an hour...and so on in 30 min increments.
The trouble with this OTR mode on some models is that it locks the machine in record mode and won't allow you to stop it...it can only be stopped by pressing the OTR record button repeatedly and looking at the display until it cycles back to 0 mins...you should then be able to stop and eject the tape.
Other than that...I think the eeprom IC in the VCR may be corrupt and it won't be worthwhile repairing.

please explain "eeprom IC" what does that mean in non technical terms and roughly how much will it cost 2 repair as well and where can i get it repaired from?

The "Eeprom" IC is an "Electronically erasable programmable read-only memory" Integrated chip and gives instructions to the microprocessor chip to control the machines functions.
It wouldn't be cost effective to replace...you would be better off just buying a new VCR.

yes i tried that but no joy on that as well where can i get another of them VCR? i like that VCR has a lot of power full functions thats why i want it fixed because i don't think i can get another one of then again or can i?
