Humax 9200 failure - help /advice wanted

Parents have a Humax and use it regularly.

It is still on the May 2006 software version as software update was disabled due to concerns that the new version might be a bit buggy (reports seem OK so it was changed to accept the update when next broadcast OTA on Saturday).

Yesterday it developed an issue whereby it was not possbile to watch any of the recordings made that day - it developed a rather odd yellow/green screen issue (parents description of this over the phone is vague).

A power off/on was tried but this then cleared the recorded programmes from view (though the HDD had % used). A new programme was recorded and started to playback ok, but halfway through it froze and box shutdown.

A few more on/offs were tried plus a manual software update (didn't find anything - not transmitted?) with no joy.

They have now formatted the HDD and need to test it, but I wondered if anyone had any advice i.e.

- anyone else had this
- is it a one off or sign of terminal problem
- is it a HDD issue and can the HDD be replaced easily (if so any guides etc)

If terminal - what is the latest PVR you would recommend.

Any help appreciated

Re: Humax 9200 failure - help /advice wanted

i had 2 humax boxes

the one i bought over chrimbo went nuts the other day

wouldn't record stuff and when i did record stuff there were 10 entries or so for each programme on the hdd

all in all it was useless, then it decided to delete everything that was on it and freeze

gave it one more chance at the weekend and it failed to record the gp so i took it back and have got an m & s own brand - so far so good

and to make matters worse i noticed that the box in the kitchen has started to do the same things

a green icon appears on the left of the recorded programme, but then the programme wont play and the box freezes

is there a way to remove the software update that installed over the new year?

I went to my parents at the weekend and got a better understanding of their green / yellow issue and it sounds exactly like this.

There was an icon that appeared on the recorded programmes list that was green/yellow and the programme would not play - so it sounds as though you have had the same issue.

They did not have the software update loaded so although I do not know how to remove if (or even if you can) I don't think the issue is linked.

Since a full HDD re-build its been OK so far....fingers crossed.

Re: Humax 9200 failure - help /advice wanted

OK.

After a good few months of problem free performance, this week it has done the same thing again. This time I was there and managed to get a photo of the symbol:

This was The Invisibles recorded of BBC on Thursday night. Other programmes on the same night recorded OK.

When you look at the detail it has no storage associated with it e.g. 0 MB.

Is this a symbol that Humax uses to indicate Failed Recordings?

This time rather than turning the box on and off trying to rectify the issue we deleted it and it seems ok since.

Any comments welcome.

Hi,

I've had that icon too. I've normally associated it with a failed recording (normally running out of space). I just go through the list (currently 160+) of recordings and delete the stuff that I'm no longer planning to keep. I think it's all to do with the buffer and eventual fragmentation of the disk so a reformat is in order at some point (mind you i've got to get all the recordings i want to keep off). Still, it's now past its two year warranty so maybe i'll look for a way to take the disk out and do a disk to disk copy or just replace the disk altogether.
