Trying to do my bit for the environment

I have a Toshiba LCD tv, a Panasonic Freeview DVD recorder and a Thomson DHD 4000 PVR. All these continuously on standby.

I thought I could do my bit for the health of the planet by turning them off at the mains at night.

The next day, after switching on, the tv and the DVD recorder work as normal, but the Thomson PVR is frozen. I have to unplug it again for a few minutes, then start up again. Not a huge problem, but I wonder why this is, and is there a solution?

Thanks

Anne-Sophie.

Re: Trying to do my bit for the environment

I wouldn't worry about switching them off. I went through a similar exercise recently but borrowed a power meter from a colleague to check. The TV/DVD/Freeview box took a couple of watts on standby. Not enough to worry about. Oh, by 'standby' I mean I do switch the TV 'OFF' at the set but the other kit is switched to 'standby' by the remote. Too much hassle to switch them all off.

Re: Trying to do my bit for the environment

PVR's are not really designed to be switched off.
