Best Signal booster for Humax 9200

Hiya,

Since the latest update of FW via OTA my quality of signal has been much worse, I have a new TV now Panny 50PX70 , with built in Digi Tuner so I have put an ickle splitter in to give the panny an aerial feed....but with this small addition its left the hummy with no signal , so Im probably looking at boosting and splitting in the same box, so can anyone recommend one which seems to have a real positive effect on the Hummy.

The TV is fine with either aerial fly lead but the Hummy isnt having any of it

cheers
Pete

Re: Best Signal booster for Humax 9200

I got one of THESE has a gain control which boosts the signal and you can see this in the signal meter on the humax.

I use this four way splitter booster from Maxview. The gain is adjustable.

http://www.maxview.co.uk/acatalog/di...mplifiers.html

Purchased from B & Q but I suppose they are available from other outlets.

The quality should be 100 or you will still get block breakup. So the booster gain is not high enough. Trouble with these four way outlets is that the gain is usually split unevenly between the four outlets. In the Maxview High Gain booster I linked to the gain for the four outlets is (1) 18dB, (2) 13dB, (3) 13dB and (4) 10dB. So the signal strength would vary according to which outlet you used.

I use two boosters. One single outlet booster (for highest gain) near where aerial co-ax enters the ground floor property from aerial and this four way booster near the TV. I need a four way oulet because it supplies the TV, Two PVR's, Two DVD recorders and a STB. Yes - I know that's more than four but some are daisy chained. This works quite well when the weather is good but I still get breakup on ITV, Ch4, & Five muxes when the weather is bad. BBC channels and Sky channels stay OK in bad weather. All will greatly improve when the digital channel transmitter strength is increased after analogue switchoff in early 2010.

Check that your BBC mux is from the correct transmitter. Don't rely on the displayed name, the same comes from relays too. Check the actual UHF frequencies against a published list. Also check if you have channels with numbers starting at 800. This can happen after an upgrade when you perform the defaults reset procedure, which rescans the channels, it can find channels from a nearby transmitter (which are inferior strength) and store those at the primary channel positions.
See Manual tuning FAQ on Hummy.org.

I used to have one of these but the lid came off as I was moving it on the shelf and give me a considerable belt from the unshielded connections on the transformer.
Not recommened.

Re: Best Signal booster for Humax 9200

I bought a cheap (single philex) one from argos to do the trick and daisy chained it into the humax and then the TV. It works a treat. The other thing I did was to make sure the singal came from the right place. I can get it from Bilsdale (nearer) or Emley Moor (Stronger) and manual searching to only let the Humax "see" Emley Moor makes for a much better signal with no blocking.

The clue was in the "Since the latest update of FW via OTA my quality of signal has been much worse".
See my answer in post #8.

hey nvingo "you da man"

I had a looksee at my channels for Strength/Signal etc and noticed that BBc channels where picking signal up from "Pontop Pike" approx 30mls away where as the others where picking up "Bilsdale" approx 15 mls away

I reset my hummy to default and let it rescan for channels this time everything is on "Bilsdale" Signal now at 80% but more importantly the quality is at 100% so many thanks mate for this pointer
