Get an actual S-VHS tape and look at the underside, if I remember correctly, there is a small hole close to the left hand side. If you make a similar-sized hole in any of the VHS tapes sold at present you should be able to record in S-VHS on a suitably equipped machine. Use a small soldering iron if you can get one- not a drill as small particles of plastic could get on to the tape and damage your recorder's heads. Most branded (TDK, Sony etc.) tapes sold today are of sufficient quality to handle S-VHS if you alter them in this way. I have even used altered VHS tapes to record in D-VHS quality on my JVC HM-DR10000.
