How to view downloaded mpegs from a Humax 9200T

Hi all,

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I have searched this forum for ans answer first. I have sucessfully download the mpegs from my new Humax 9200T, and I added a .mpeg extension so Windows Media Player would be able to read it.

However, it seems I do not have the appropriate codecs for decompressing the mpeg.

Does anybody know where I can get a suitable codec for viewing the file on my PC (preferably so I can also import the mpeg in Nero Vision Express to create a DVD).

Cheers

You can use Media Player Classic or Videolan (AKA VLC) to directly play the files, though you may need DVD software installed to provide the codecs. Videolan can also be used to perform transcoding and other conversions and for LAN streaming. MPC may have problems with seeking in raw 9200 files but I prefer MPC overall.

Alternately you can remultiplex the Humax files into MPEG2 PS format. Easiest tool is HDTV2MPEG, I prefer ProjectX with command line mplex (included with DVDAuthor). Both tools will let you edit out adverts. Much more information available if you search for threads about burning DVB to DVD, including how to get the right audio into your file!

Someone else can tell you how to get Media Player to mangle the files, I prefer not to let it (and its security holes) run on my machines

MPC is included in the K-Lite codec pack http://www.codecguide.com/ or available on its own (you'll have to search)
VLC at http://www.videolan.org/
ProjectX at http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ProjectX
