Final update from me I think...

The recording/playback problems continue with any/everything HD - it's got so that I was ignoring the HD channels, which seems daft now that we finally have them in my area.

So I gave up and bought a Humax Fox T2 - wow! What a machine. It's so much better, in every respect than the FetchTV offering.

Highly recommended....

Well without Sky Go I don't have any use for Fetch anymore, so will be sticking it on eBay, not that it's going to be worth much now. lol

It's a shame because I could see a lot of potential for Fetch when it first came out.

forget the above this is actually my tv, looks like my 8320hd is a lost cause. I have tried booting with a usb firmware stick inserted, no good.
The hdd is ok I took it out and it appears in linux although its locked so I can't wipe any old files

Recordings showing 98% Full

Hi, I'm hopin that someone can help me with my latest problem.

Basically my recordings reached 98% full and therefore does not record anything unless I actually watch it. I have deleted approximately 80% of the recordings and it still how 98% full and refuses to record anything in full.

I have tried resetting the box using the button underneath,
Deleting timeshift recordings hasn't helped either.

I have looked through every menu option and can not find any options to get the box to rescan the hdd.

Any help would be greatly apreciated, thanks.

P.s before it is suggested, I don't particularly want to erase the disk.

You could try a factory reset from the diagnostics menu, when it says erase disk say know and your recordings will still be intact. The only other suggestion will be to archive off your recordings to an eternal drive and then reformat the hdd.

I can't find that option in the diagnostics menu or any other menu to be honest.

Am I being completely blind?

Ok it's a hidden menu to do a factory reset select

Menu=>Diagnostics=>Smartbox Info

When in the Smartbox info screen press and hold the green button another menu will appear reset Smartbox settings press blue and box will be factory rest without deleting hdd. Press yellow to factory reset and format the HDD

Jason, thanks for the advice but I'm afraid that I have already erased the disk.

I swear I suffer from OCD and I know that I would have not slept between the time of my last post and this one if I hadn't of done it.

Shame really as I would have liked to have retained the recordings but I have grown fond of my sleep more now that I have a baby.

Thanks again, I remember that tip for next time I fill the disk.

It's a shame you lost your recordings, but at the end of the day, it's only TV

Some way back up this thread or one of the previous 6 I did jest that we would see YouView launch before we ever saw the long promised UI update for the Fetch - of course they did shoot themselves in the foot in that race by going bust !

Anyway It seems we now have a YouView launch date of end July
LINK

No mention if the YouView box has an HD tuner - It must have surely ?

Yes, the YouView box does have a HD Freeview tuner, and can record two things at the same time like the Fetch box can

Got this by email from Fetch last night - maybe there is hope after all?

To all FetchTV customers:

Many thanks for your patronage and support at FetchTV.

As you may know Fetch has recently been acquired by shopto.net, a leading UK online entertainment retailer. We are in the process of re-building FetchTV to deliver a broader range of entertainment across more devices, including set top boxes, connected televisions, PC and more. The service will be offline for the next two-three months while we make a range of improvements and integrate with ShopTo's existing systems.

In the meantime we will keep you advised by email of upcoming developments.

Once again, thank you so much for your support and please don't hesitate to email any queries, concerns or questions to:

T: 0844 318 1328
(calls cost 5p per minute. Calls from mobile phones and some networks may be higher)
or

E: customerservice@shopto.net

I didn't get an Email but if you press the fetch button it says all that there on screen now. Sounds interesting! Also the windows that the now absent fetch adverts live in have now gone leaving more room for the epg :-)

Is this why I can't get BBC iPlayer anymore on my box or is there another way I can get it?

I have no issues accessing iplayer no need for USB stick but you do need to use the 222 (BBC) shortcut, try powering off and back on the fetch box also check your network.

I'm sure this problem has been discussed here before now but I can't seem to find a resolution - my streaming of video has packed in ! I can stream music fine [so I know everything is connected up and devices are 'seeing' each other] but video will not. I can find my files and individual videos and when I select 'play' all seems well but all I get is a black screen and a constantly rotating 'barber's pole' icon. Any idea what I have got messed up ??? Thanks in advance....

For any onlookers who may not know, there is a Youview dedicated sub-forum here.

Thanks for the link. Done a few searches recently on the avforums app for it, but there didn't seem to be anything meaty when I last looked!

My 8320hd box decided to keep restarting on friday just before the start of the Olympics lol what a time to start failing, anyway on checking, the hard disk seems to have failed checks with all my recordings gone. Its 18 months old now and Tesco direct are sending out a post 12 months returns form so not sure if it's worth keeping or should I shout for some warranty money and use it for something else. As much as I'd like a new on the market you view box it's still quite dear. But to be honest I'd not mind replacing the hard disk assuming that would fix the fault but before I do I'd like to ask if anyone at all has managed to replace the hard disk ( which although you can open the cover on the bottom of the box, you need to break the warranty sticker to unscrew it and take it out) so I can make a kind of educated choice as to what to do. Any thoughts anyone? Given that Shopto are not clear yet what is going to be done about supporting the 8320.

Have a look at this post -

Fetch TV HD-PVR at Tesco from 04/06/2010 - [Part Six]

I'm not sure the seal has much meaning now but seemingly it doesn't need to be broken (somehow - never tried it myself).

Many thanks for that, I forgot I had seen that, I'll give it a go though Im a little scared of just "unclipping" the top avoiding breaking the warrenty seal.
the box has its qwerks but in general it has worked for me but I must admit I dont like relying on it.

In an exciting new development, I got home from work today to find the light on the front of my Technika flashing on and off.
The box is working fine, but the light flashes even if the box is put into low power mode.
It's never done this before! Any ideas or anyone else affected?

Thanks for any help!

Oddness... I too saw this the other night, however it was at 4am during insomnia and I got up. I went in the lounge to find the light flashing quickly on the front of the box- but as I walked into the room it stopped suddenly, and a few seconds later it kind of made a click off sound. It actually made me a little paranoid as it was if the little beast saw me coming and then pretended to be asleep!
