Dirty tapes - How do I clean them?

I've got some old, rare copies of some old Sci-Fi B-movies on VHS that over time have become dirty. I say dirty because every time I try to play them, not only is the picture very snowy, but I also have to use a Head Cleaner afterwards before I can get a decent picture on my VCR with other "clean" tapes.

If they were not so rare (and also unavailable on DVD) then I could just replace them, but I can't. (If only it had occured to me to make some back-up copies!)

So, does anyone know if there is any method or machine or service that could save these tapes for me? I'd really hate to lose them.
