Freeview VCR released

Sorry I always have problems posting links to the news articles on What Video Tv !
"Finally an electronics manufacturer has caught on to the fact that everybody in the UK is going digital and released a VCR with an in-built digital Freeview tuner. The manufacturer concerned is Daewoo, and its ground-breaking bit of kit is the SV900"

Not that silly Martin. Many folk still seem to love their VHS machines and I've lost count of the number of times I've tried to explain the advantages of a PVR. This is, after all, the UK - where Tivo only managed 18000 subscribers despite being the best thing since sliced bread.

A lot of people will still have large VHS collections and will regularly record to tape - this will ease them into Freeview and PVR-like recording, preparing the way for DVD PVRs in future years.

I wouldn't buy one mind!

Bridge

I think it's a good way of bridging the gap between analog and digital TV. Think about it, when they finally have the analog switch off (who knows when), all current VCR's will be pretty much useless! (you could record via SCART, but that's a hassle for some).

By introducing FREEVIEW VCR's, it bridges the gap by combining analog (tape) and digital (tuner) technology, and makes the transition easier for all.

It's a shame it's not D-VHS or even S-VHS Et, but I guess that would only confues the avergare punter for this product. I personnally ordered a Humax PVR8000T yesterday instead of getting a new S-VHS ET VCR. Hopefully a 40Gb HDD will last me a while.

Aye, but a Pace twin can't play back your VHS cassettes, which this is aimed at. Those who have larger VHS archives or would struggle with a HDD based system or DVD-R for sharing material.
