Top Up TV on Humax 9300?

Just wondering if this is possible? I know its got a card slot but the top up tv site doesn't seem to allow orders without buying their own box. Surely the card slot isn't just there for show?

You can get what's left of the live Top Up TV service (which isn't much) or ESPN, but you can't get Top Up's time shifted service without their own PVR.

So i can get espn? I know its only one channel but it works out cheaper than getting sky.

Does it mean i can't record espn though? That would completely defeat the object cos some stuff is too late to watch.

You can record it. I think you need a valid card/subscription to replay the recordings. The PVR does have a trick (well the 9200 does anyway) to record what's being played back, which creates a copy of the program with the encryption removed which will play without the card.

Well if I'm paying for espn I'd have the card, or is this something specific to their own pvr? So as long as I have an espn subscription I can record and play it back? All I want to do is record things that are on late at night and watch them back the next day, not bothered about keeping them really. I'd be able to do that, right?

You can do that. I have a subscription for the old Top Up Service. I never watch anything on it, it's just for test purposes, and that records fine. I also used to have a sub for Setanta, again for testing, but I haven't got around to asking for ESPN yet. That also recorded & played fine on my Humax 9200.

Hi Gary, are you able to confirm what I wrote in my post?

..ie. That with the card removed, recordings don't play, unless they have been copied with the card present. Cheers.
