Pvr no signal

Hi, got a strange fault. When using an old Digihome twin tuner freeview pvr. Signal is fine while either viewing OR recording. However when i change channel while a recording is underway 'no signal' appears and a full re-tune is needed to get picture back. It records fine as long as the pvr remains on the same channel just cant watch another at the same time. Does it need a separate aerial coax input as per sky+ and freesat twin tuners? I didnt think the aerial version needed two cables as the box would diplex the signal.?

Re: Pvr no signal

You don't say what model of Digihome you've got, but even if it is the earliest PVR80, which allows "watching one, recording another" but not "recording two at the same time", only one aerial connection is needed. It sounds as though the second tuner in your PVR has developed a fault - but have you tried the usual first line of attack - unplugging at the mains, waiting a little, then reconnecting - it can work wonders.

Re: Pvr no signal

Yes tried that already. I had it from a friend in another area/transmitter location where it worked fine. He brought his new pvr to my house and that too gave the same fault!

And why are there two aerial inputs on the back of the pvr if only one is required ?????

Ah, that might explain the problem. There should be a link (ie short fly lead) between the right-hand Antenna In socket & the left-hand Antenna Out socket (ie between the two inner sockets).

Unfortunately, the Digihome PVR80 has a detachable fly-lead, which seems to have got lost from some machines. (There was another thread about this some time ago.) The corresponding Goodmans Vestel-clone used a permanent soldered link.

Try connecting the two sockets with a fly-lead, to see if this solves your problem.

PS I'm not sure why there were two sockets in the first place, but I think it was something to do with making the hardware suitable for some foreign systems.

Topfield pvrs use this system. It's more flexible you can for instance feed each tuner with a aeperate aerial or use an amplified splitter to feed the two tuners.

Well done chaps, new flylead connecting output 1 to input 2 did the trick. Cheers.
