Any advice on a PVR or HDD DVD recorders that have good subtitle facility to buy.

I'm getting confuseditis looking.

Any Freeview PVR or DVD/HDD recorder with inbuilt Freeview tuner will allow you to switch subtitles on or off during "live" viewing. However, there is a difference between PVRs & DVD/HDD recorders when it comes to the display of subtitles during playback of a recording.

With a Freeview PVR, subtitles do not have to be switched on during recording; and they can be switched on & off during play back, just as they can be during live viewing.

However, with most (& possibly all) DVD/HDD recorders - whether recording from their internal Freeview tuners or from an external Freeview box - to have subtitles, they must be switched on before the recording, and cannot then be switched off during play back.

Frankly, I don't think you'll find much reference to subtitle capability in the specs of PVRs & recorders - it's not generally regarded as an important function, though for many viewers it is in fact vital.
