Bush BTU160DTR Guide issue

Hi guys i have a issue with the guide on my mums BTU160DTR.. since the retune for the first part of the digital switchover.. ( we are in the northwest)

the guide has been unable to get bbc channles for the whole day.. it has it for the program that is currently on and the next one but the rest is blank which makes it impossbile for her to record bbc channels later in the day or at night for when she is not home.

I have retuned numerous times, unplugged it and plugged back in but still the issue is there. has anyone had a similar problem if so can it be fixed.. as this doesn't look good for the rest of the channels when we go fully digital on December 3rd.

thanks.

I don't know anything about this particular PVR, however on some makes of PVR you need to do a First Time Installation/Reset to Factory Defaults. (Rather than a retune).

Other things you could consider; does the box carry the digital tick logo? Are you receiving channels from more than one transmitter?

I believe that is one of the Vestel PVRs with the Top Up TV software installed in it. I also believe that on the Winter Hill transmitter they have done some re-allocation of some BBC channels to a different MUX. Also with the increased power of some MUXs there are more occurrences of users picking up signals from more than one transmitter. When this happens it usually results in there being entries in the 8xx range of channels in the EPG. Maybe your BBC channels are in there? Also you could check in the tuning information menu to see if you have more than 6 UHF channels listed.

The usual cure for receiving from multiple transmitters is to do a Manual Tuning routine but I don't think the TUTV software provides this facility.

Colin

Edit:- I should have said that all the above issues can cause EPG population issues for some PVRs. Although it is also true to say that the TUTV PVRs are not very good at acquiring EPG data at the best of times. Assuming you are using the 8-day EPG on your PVR that is, rather than the optional 14-day EPG. If the latter then that suggests you have an issue with the PVR downloading the EPG update at 11:30 each morning.

Re: Bush BTU160DTR Guide issue

Hi guys thanks for the reply.. yeah i did a factory reset after contacting Tutv about the issue and that resulted in all the channels having the problem not just the BBC ones.. so now i have a useless guide.

I'm running the 8 day Freeview+ one as the 14 day TUTv guide is totally blank nothing at all appears on it .. at least the 8 day one has the now and next.. but still with it blank for the rest of the day it's not much use..

the guys at TUTV seem to not have a clue on how to solve the issue yet.. i asked if they plan to have a software update but got not replay as yet for that..

i dunno what to do my mum doesn't have the money to get a new or more expensive DTR.. and it has served her well enough until the retune.. and yes it does have all the requirements such as the digital tick and everything else.

It looks like it maybe the epg download issue if that's the case is there anything that can be done to fix that.

Bush BTU160DTR

Bought one from Maplin today. so far it works well and is very quiet APART FROM the EPG!
It picks virtually non of the 8 day freeview + guide up so it really isn't a PVR because there is no manual timer recording as far as i can see. I am going to leave it plugged in overnight and see what the 14 day top-up guide is like.

It was 50 quid so it's a bargain (if the guide will work)

May I respectfully suggest you use it for a week and then come back with your opinions. Then decide if you still think it is a bargain.

The 14-day EPG will not give you Freeview+ Accurate Recording. But then neither does the 8-day Guide much of the time.

Now that you have lived with it for a month, what is the verdict?

Er, i am afraid it went back to maplin. It's a real shame because it seemed to be a very good machine. It booted up very fast, reacted to the remote fast and the overall use was easy.
The downfall....It never did pick up the epg! (neither one... it has it's own and the freeview one).
I checked that it had the latest software...it was.

The guy at maplin said they had had a couple like that but they had sold a lot.

I have thought of buying another after the northwest switch off on the 2nd December......

My mum also bought one of these from Maplin recently and whilst the EPG appears to work OK the picture quality is significantly worse than with the arial connected directly to the TV. Did any of you have issues with picture quality?
