No Audio from Sky to Nordmende PVR

When I connect my Nordmende PVR (NM80HDDR) to my Sky box (original Panasonic) I get no audio either through the RF or Scart. I get audio when I play a DVD in the unit. The audio feeds straight through the PVR to the TV when the PVR is switched off. I also recorded some video footage on my hard drive with no audio on playback. Did I buy a lemon?
